3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

Oh, if I'm not mistaking, the Sprint guys should be receiving training starting today. Time to start pressuring the managers to play with a model of the phone?

I tried chatting to a few late last week; they were rather stiff. They were also very stiff the last time a phone was released; but it might be a NE thing :)

The verizon manager in the family community (won't name it) was much friendlier during the various driod releases :)

Well I wasn't trying to argue about LTE. Just noted that it is better i most practical ways to Wi-Max. Lots of my friends have Evo (I live in a popular sprint area) and uniformly most of them can't use wi-max indoors. 3g in my area is not so bad (actually pretty good for 3g) but what's the point of wi-max if you cant' use it.

Anyways I think spring knows this and I think that is why they are likely to move to LTE. Pity they didn't do it in the first place (I'm presuming perhaps incorrectly they will use a lower frequency with LTE).

Sprint will have the same problem with building penetration and LTE if the frequency they will use is still going to be 1900hz just like wimax. the speeds might be faster though.

the reason Verizon doesn't have this problem is because they uses the 700mhz bandwidth for LTE.

1900 would work fine. Sprint does not use 1900 for Wimax. I wish they did, but they don't. They use 2500 for Wimax.

Apparently, 1080P recording was a convenient typo.... convenient until a reporter pointed it out to them.... You will notice that it has been removed from the HTC website..... I am depressed now, but hope that a software/firmware upgrade will allow 1080p recording..... :(

There is a lot more to pictures and video than the numbers involved. I would take a high quality 5MP or 720p camera over a low quality 8MP or 1080p camera any day. Just my personal opinion...

Depressed over 1080p? That's over doing it. And it is possible its just locked down for now. Plenty phones came out w/ 1080 shutdown.

Yes but will they still be using 1900? Per my note I'm sort of assuming they now know to use a lower frequency assuming something is available.

Btw is there a difference in energy cost (ala battery life) to recieve at 700 vs 19000 ?

should they do this when the phone is not released? there are going to be negative reviews on these things.. htc should not say anything until the masses get it and provide proper feedback.

all my opinion which may not be yours.

LOL, seems like this years EVO will be even more controversial than the last.

I'm a bit disappointed that Sprint and HTC actually taught all these people the phone was 1080p when it wasn't. All those people at CTIA talking about it were misinformed because the phone wasn't even on the website yet right? And all these people playing with and demo'ing the phones, and no one noticed? I'm assuming this surfaced after the engadget review. Could be wrong on that though.

HTC/Sprint are sure doing a poor job exciting people about this phone pre-release IMO.

yeah the store i dropped my $50 deposit down at said they will be opening up at 8 and i plan to be there like 1 or two hours early cuz they said 6 others pre ordered it before i did. So i plan to be the first one there cuz im getting the first one! They also said they have a rumored 20 devices coming to thier store and the best part about friday is im off work that day!

I do have one question if i want the to transfer all my contacts to the new E3D do i have to un-root my phone? or at least take it back to the stock ROM?

If you have all your contacts in gmail, they will automatically populate to the new phone as long as you log into the same account.

ah ok well i havent added any ofmy contacts to gmail i do sync with facbook so can i still upload then to gmail and would the facbook contact upload as well if i do?

Before trading in a stock Android phone - perform factory reset, then use on-board tool to format the SD card (unless you plan on keeping it and swapping it out with the original).

Protect your data and your identity.

nah im keeping my evo 4g fiance wants it just wanna know how to make it so i dont have to manual put contacts in again

ya think if i go back to the stock rom and export to the SD card i can import it from that same card to the 3d when i get it?

Hmmm, makes me lean towards photon more.

Many pre-review blogs said the beast would have 1080p, before the spec was on their website.

They screwed up.

At least they're not delivering half-baked 1080p.

Not sure why anyone wants 1080p, but it's your (and everyone's) right to have that expectation.

My (unpopular) opinion about 1080p on _any_ smartphone here, to save anyone asking - http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/335824-3devo-pre-release-miscellany-28.html#post2836846

If you trade in your evo 4g at the sprint store, can you keep the memory card? I'm guessing no but it would be awesome..

Ask them to keep the 3vo's new SD card, and put yours in instead.

Should cause no trouble for them.

Keeping it outright - don't think so, a part is a part is a part, they'll want the full set.

Also to keep in mind is the Brand, GB capacity, and Class. A person probably wouldn't want to trade down so to speak, unless of course they don't care.

The card that came in the Evo 4g was a Sandisk 8GB Class 2, the review units of the Evo 3D contains a Sandisk 8GB Class 4.

There is the ever going debate that rages on about whether MicroSD class really matters in a cell phone -- I don't bring it up to start the debate please don't, there is plenty of other places to discuss that.

My thought here was I'd point it out as a heads up to anyone thinking about swapping like that and that they may want to keep the newer part vs. the older part since there could be a slight latent benefit. Informed decision making.

This also seems like a good place to drop this helpful link I bookmarked when I got my Evo 4G last year: SD Card Formatter 3.0 It is a computer utility that erases and formats SD cards. It features a Full Erase and Full Overwrite mode as well as quick format. It helps me feel more secure that my data is off the card and over written, where as the quick format utility on the Evo may leave recoverable data. Maybe I'm just a sucker, who knows. Good little utility nonetheless - bookmark it.

Vaguely I thought they were including a few freebies on the included sd card. You might want to check into that prior to requesting a swap.
