Eris to v2.x, when?

Ok, so the Bravo is expected in late February and it is supposed to have 2.1 with Sense UI. We have already been told that we would get 2.0 or 2.1 by end of quarter 1 2010, by Verizon people. HTC is telling bigdroid that it should be expected late January to mid February. Verizon still has to test it before it will be released as an update.

From all of that I would conclude that HTC is done incorporating Sense into 2.x and they have probably already given it to Verizon for testing. Verizon is probably testing it now. I still think it will be February. The only question now is, will it be on the 5th or the 12th. My obviously logical formula has already pointed to the 12th and you can't really argue with math logic like that.

Yep, I'm still going with February 12th. :D

I like going with the later date just for the longer testing cycle/time.

Let 'em un-bug, de-flub and per-FECT that baby before sending it to us. ;)

I know I will probably be lynched for this, but I'm fine with them holding off until the actual end of Q1. If they can really go through and release it error free then they can take the extra time as far as I am concerned.

Anything that helps stop the "my Eris doesn't do everything this other phone does perfectly and I am going to bitch and moan about it until the end of time" or the "I knew this phone wouldn't do _____ when I bought it, but I'm going complain about it now anyway" threads will make me happy. People having issues or needing help is one thing (I am happy to help people), but the bitching about every little thing is just annoying. :o Sorry, rant over.

Well said!

You honestly think 2.1 is going to be perfect? People are still going to complain.

Of course some will.

But those people are well-known.. turbo-scrolling past their posts with a finger-flick is one of the great features of Android software. ;) :p :D.. etc.

Well said again!!!

Remember all, Rome wasnt built overnight! So lets not expect android to do the same!

Not sure. After this email I got, I doubt even February 12th is a plausible date, at least for 2.1. Perhaps another update prepping for 2.1. Who's to say the one due tomorrow is for 2.1 and not for something stupid like the YouTube fix last week?

There was a YouTube fix last week? I didn't get any updates, and I am still getting the "Sorry, this video cannot be played" message :(

I never set my expectations that high. Notice that I never said perfect, I just said error free. Nothing is ever perfect, but some things reach higher levels of imperfection than others. Some people too. ;)

I also know that people will complain. Even if God came down and created the absolute perfect device that could do everything there is to do, someone would complain that there wasn't enough evil on it. You can please some of the people some of the time and the rest you can tell to just piss off.

Maybe two weeks ago. Whatever the OTA update was two weeks ago, fixed something. One thing was the lockscreen, but wasn't some small YouTube fix in there? Maybe not, because, yes, mine sucks too.

Give me an example. I'm under the impression that if there are no "errors" then everything should run fine. The current keyboard lag? It can be fixed with a software tweak, right? It's not hardware is it? YouTube not working? Software. Battery life sucks? A lot to do with software.

Most people complaining just don't know enough about their phones. I'm no expert, but I'm somewhat adept at figuring out a problem. If people complain because they don't know an .mkv file won't work on their Eris, let alone barely fit on an 8GB SD card, that's just stupid, and yes, you tell them to go play in traffic. That's what I was referring too.

But when it's bug fixes, don't you expect them to be fixed quickly? If someone complains that YouTube doesn't work, the idea that "it isn't perfect, you know?" shouldn't be thrown in their faces. When 2.1 comes out, I'm expecting something else to stop working when something else gets fixed. YouTube gets fixed, Google Goggles identifies everything you snap with your camera as a ******ed muskrat in Kenya. Keyboard lag is fixed, the dictionary comes preloaded with Afghani swears as default words.

I feel HTC will always be behind on their bug fixes. It'll take months to figure out how to stop a lag. On top of that, some people can't handle not getting their penny's worth out of their device, whereas some give the leeway of every dollar counting. You can't blame them. There's always gonna bugs and they're always gonna be pissed.

That has absolutely ZERO relevance to HTC Eris phones.

Now THAT is funny... ROTFL...

Obviously you have never been to Texas.. :)

I have both the MotoDroid AND the Eris... The Eris is a nice device, but the overall capabilities of the MotoDroid make it my FAVORED one.. but, I understand each person has their preferences..

Having said that, TEXAS is still the best state..
:)
I AGREE Every thing is better in Tx. Especially in Houston Texas BABE :p

No offense Smacky, but this reads like arguing for the sake of arguing. Or you are trying to read WAY too much into one or two words in my post.

Error free does not equal perfect. Perfect is including everything you want/need the phone to do. This won't happen for 99.99999% out there, ever. When I say error free, I am talking about not adding errors to the mix, such as your Kenyan muskrat issue or Afghani language issues. All I am saying is that I want the update after the can of Raid has been used and not before, just because people are too impatient to wait.

Kenyan Muskrat???
like this Kenyan muskrat?
