VZ Employee Talked me out of the Charge

jasf

Newbie
Went to a retail store today and told the guy I wanted the Charge. The employee cautioned me I couldn't expect more than 4hrs. That's what he said he got. he said that was without GPS or 4G and using Wifi when available. I'm going to still get the phone probably just through amazon or a different store but why would he say this? I feel like if he really was using without GPS or 4G 4hrs is way to short.

He also told me he "burned through" 3 Thunderbolts. Is he just a bad salesman.

I think he just was a bad salesman. I mean if you check all the forums you see plenty of people with great battery life. I can see what he said about the thunderbolt I had it and was on my 5th replacement. I have a charge coming in the mail.

Yea, I've seen great and bad things about the battery but figured with smart usage and customization I could overcome. I was just baffled that an employee didn't want to make a sale.

He also didn't know about the accessory with the desktop charger, and extra battery....said it doesn't exist.

You got a bad salesmen.. Battery life is not perfect but it works for me all day..

Never take the sale persons word for it. Do the research on your own & decide for yourself. Most of the people that work there are younger people just trying to get some sales experience and then move on to something else, so must of the time they are just not into the job. You can ask 3 different people at the store the same question and you will get 3 different answers. I'm not saying that all Verizon sales people are bad, but as we known in anything it just takes a few bad apples to give the bunch a bad name.

He was probably out of stock on those and wanted you to buy something he did have in stock. What did he push you towards?

I love my Thunderbolt and the charge looks good too.

he didn't push me towards anything. now that I think of it I went right before lunch. Perhaps he just wanted to go for a lunch break and not deal with the sale.

I just put my phone on the charger (5:45pm) with 30% battery left. Took it off the charger this morning at 6am. That was with light-to-moderate usage during the day, plus streaming music via bluetooth to my car stereo a total of 1 hour round trip. We have pretty good 4G coverage in my area. Now, your experience may vary, but dead in 4 hours? Was he streaming video for 4 straight hours, or did he set his screen to NEVER sleep at full brightness?

Guy was full of crap. Last time I went to the VZW and actually told a salesman I was in the market for an android he told me I should get an iphone. I asked him why and he basically had no explanation whatsoever.

that guy sounds like a moron.

Folks....here's the deal. A retail store pays more for the product at cost than a corporate store and they can't sell it for much more (if at all more) than VZW's advertised price.

The Thunderbolt, Revolution and Charge are 3 of the worst phones in terms of retail store profit which means the sales person makes less commission. The Charge happens to be the most profitable of the 3, but a sales person will try their best to get you to buy a Droid X2 or an Incredible 2 which, obviously are more profitable.

What I was told by my company's second in command is that you NEVER bad-mouth something that a customer has their heart set on. That's number 1 where that kid fuct up.

I am still fairly new at selling phones, and unlike my more seasoned co-workers I still have trouble steering people in a direction I know will be against their best desires.

A woman came in today with an old Casio g'Zone flip phone; she lost her battery, but we don't carry batteries for it (and I don't even think you can get them online either). Her phone was beat to shit, had paint all over it, and she said, still worked fine (until she lost the battery)
With the utmost glee I showed her the Commando, cause I love it, and know that it would be perfect for her abusive nature. She was merely curious about smartphones and was only familiar with her friend's iPhone. I talked up the Commando and how much better Android is (because I believe it) and she loved it and bought the phone.

Now a Commando is hard to sell accessories and insurance for because it's designed to not need extra protection, so I ended up making really shitty profit on it. But in the long run, I have created a much better chance of repeat business, which is what that kid should have considered.
Most of my co-workers would have either sent her away or sold her on the iPhone because then they can push a $60 OtterBox case, screen protectors and a $200 insurance plan, basically scaring her into it because the piece of sh!t is made out of glass.

Jasf, if you happen to live in South Florida, shoot me a PM because I, with the utmost pride, will sell you a Samsung Droid Charge every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hell, I'll even let you play with mine while we transfer your contacts over.

I would imagine you would have to make a serious conscious effort in order to kill the battery in under 4 hours. I don't think its something a normal user could even do....

GMB

I've killed my battery in less than four hours....BY STREAMING MULTIPLE EPISODES OF DR. WHO!!!
What, bitch!!! I go hardcore with my Charge!!! I easily go through over a gig a week.

OTA Data Hog 4-LIFE!!!!

When I roll up in a VZW, I take 15-20 minutes to educate my favorite sales people, energize people into buying the Droid CHARGE!!! I think I helped sell about 3-4 people showing the DC Goodness and praising it's great points... Pro Bono work for VZW, I need a kick back from Big Red, LOL.

Oh no, I highly recommend it. I can PM you a great streaming site that gets the shows 2 weeks before America does.
BTW I've only streamed on battery power alone a couple of times and once was just to see how far I can push it.

I normally watch Dr. Who or House while plugged in, before bed, with that gorgeous screen propped up on my night table.

Oh, the colors......the colors.

I guess I don't watch enough TV, I thought they stopped airing Dr. Who in the late 80's?

EDIT: Wait, do Charges have built in time machines? I didn't see anything about it on the box...

Yes, it's part of the Gummy ROM!

And Dr. Who started up again in 2005 and has become one of England's number one shows...and it's also getting a couple million viewers here on BBC America.

I think they are on Doctor number 11, 32 seasons (1963-86)-(2005-Present), Still putting out pretty good content from across the sea.
