Gingerbread 2.3 release date?

I assume that everyone who is dying for Netflix either has unlimited data or is always around WIFI?

2 gb on ATT is a real bummer.

Grandfathered unlimited and never letting go. Verizon is going to 2gigs / $30.

Sad, really. Any tech innovation (i.e. streaming video, etc) will be significantly stifled due to carrier greediness. If you have an option to get unlimited data (i.e. Sprint) DO IT now and hang on for life. These plans are going the way of the dodo.

no unlimited, but rather when I travel (ie. hotel or airport) where there is free wifi, I can watch movies or something while I chill there.

Especially, now that most hotels have flat screens, chances of HDMI input, I can watch on the TV - that's all. :D

I travel every week for business. Many hotels block slingbox's ports via their wifi.

It's a lose-lose. I come to depend on unlimited AT&T wireless to minimize irritations with connectivity while on the road. I don't have the patience for bandwidth restrictions on hotel wifi (which are becoming very common due to hulu / netflix / sling streaming from hotel guests which clogs the network for everyone else.).

Also have unlimited. When I first signed up a year ago with AT&T there was no more unlimited data but luckily I got my hands on a 2G iphone :D

I have unlimited plan and love it, I use around 5 gigs a month sometimes more. However I dislike the fact that in order for me to tether I would have to give up unlimited I wish there was a way to get both.

There is, if you have an Android phone (Hopefully you do) all you have to do is root it and then download a wifi tether app from the market.

How did you get unlimited data by using an Iphone 2g?
I want unlimited data so badly.

Activated a 2G iphone on my line which has only one option for data ($20 for unlimited) and since its done through itunes, did it from home. Once it was on there, I called AT&T and told them I wanted to switch to my own Captivate, gave them the IMEI and then when it was time for them to switch my data plan, they had no choice but to grandfather me in from the $20 unlimited iPhone to a $30 unlimited smartphone plan. Worked like a charm. Did this for a few of my friends.

Ya I heard about that, but I also heard if your ussage seems ubnormal to att they will take action. I read that all wireless providers are cracking down on tethering that they didn't authorize.

Does anyone have a release date for when we will see Gingerbread on the Atrix? It looks amazing from what I've seen.

Also, what is new in Gingerbread?

Their current time is June or July according to Motoroa. I am looking forward to it as well!

Yes - I was able to keep unlimited because I was a previous ATT user. I can't imagine having only 2gb before big $$

hey guys if you want to wifi tether on att without root. I currently use this. You can use these directions to get it to work. The only catch is if att figures out that you are doing it Ive heard they will automatically put you on the 4gig tether plan at another $20 dollars a month again. you may be able to argue out of it. but like i said Ive been using it for at least 3 months and haven't had a problem or an extra charge.

Procedure:

Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Press

blegh! I hate it when they do that... we're paying for the data plan, why can't we use it in such?

I don't get it...
whether I get the 2GB or 4GB plan, I'm still consuming bandwidth in their servers... why can't I restrict myself to 2GB only?

... and shouldn't it be to their advantage for being on the 2GB plan and tether with it? If I go over, guess who's getting more money yanked out of their accounts?

Or better yet, I'm paying for unlimited data.....let me stinkin use it! I haven't had any "problems" with ATT but they do make me mad with stupid rules on data. They're going to make it eventually, if not already, where unlimited data is going to be so "limited" you will have to "upgrade" to a new data plan.
