Help Battery life and battery management

Does anyone have a reason why I shouldn't get the cheapo extra batteries on ebay?

Example

I bought a dock/battery combo back in the day on the cheap for my HTC TP and they seemed to hold a charge well.

Any other experiences?

Open up your Youtube app and search Gopro 3D: Highlight reel 2011

IT IS INSANE!!!!!....and an excellent way to show off the capabilities of this display!!!!

That Gopro is great. But when I got busy at work and had to sit the phone down for a while, and picked it back up the phone was dead. Had to pull the battery to get it to restart. Both times.

I bought a similar setup (batteries / charger look exactly like that) for my EVO 4G and never had an issue. The extra batteries came in handy a bunch of times.

A few weeks back I bought a setup like that for the EVO 3D and when I got it the charger was some piece of crap that had movable pins and the batteries have a wrapper on them with EVO 3D on it. Not sure I trust the one I got. I would prefer the one you have linked.

Wouldn't it be safer to not buy from ebay. Never had an HTC charger or batteries blow up on me or mess up my phone. I have heard that someone purchased a cheap car charger and their car almost caught on fire. Luckily he was able to put it out.

After that Watch update yesterday I recharged my phone all the way and then just ran it silly yesterday and my battery life improved greatly. When I went to sleep last night I had about 8 hrs of on Battery Time with 1 h 8m 35s of phone calls and a Display on time of 3 h 4m 27s with various others and I was at 48% (I use Battery Widget by Elvision). I left my Wifi on and when I woke up 6 hours later my phone was at... ready for this..... 48%. I kept double checking (sometimes the widget needs to be pressed to refresh) and eventually it ticked down to 47%. Now my display on time is at 4h 13m 18s and I am at 32% battery and my total time on battery is 15h 59m 8s. I have been using it all morning but the Display on Time is just blowing me away. With my 4G I could literally just sit and watch the battery get eaten up with display on.

I got my EVO 3D Wednesday evening. Both Wed. night and Thurs. night I powered the phone off before bed and noted the remaining battery level (about half each night). Thursday morning the phone was completely dead and this morning the phone was down to less than 10%. How can this happen? Perhaps, even though the phone was off, the HTC Watch issue still drained the battery? Has anyone else experienced this? I have taken care of all the updates and am hopeful that I will no longer have the problem.

I already got mine 3 plus wall charger 15.98 extra wall charger 5.99 or 6.99. I'm all set except for a case.. Just got my phone. :-)

Curious.... Why are you turning the phone off at night? No need to do that. If you have Fast Boot enabled (which it is by default, it is under Power) all choosing Power Off does is put the phone to sleep, not turn it off. It is possible HTC Watch was still able to drain the battery.

I had something similar this morning. Normally I plug my phone in overnight, but I fell asleep last night without doing it. I know for sure that I had about a third of my battery left. This morning the screen wouldn't come on because the battery was so low, nearly drained.

Phone was on wifi only with a strong connection to my router. 3g, gps, 4g, and bluetooth were all definitely off.

Are you guys allowing your phone to sync with anything? Getting push email at night or is your email schedule set to something crazy? I would look within the apps first and make sure your apps are setup properly. If it ain't the apps then its gotta be the phone.

I dont think so, battery life during day and evening has been good. But I'll look at my sync setting.

I should have said check the send/receive data schedules for all of your apps. I'm still charging my phone but there are apps I would assume that are setup to download crap everyday despite the power settings on the phone. If hooked up to WiFi, I bet some apps were throwing a damn data party...lol

When I power up my phone I will take haptic feedback off and go through my apps and make sure their settings are setup to where they aren't pulling data unless they get "CagedFury's sole permission first."

I'll be on mine all day tomorrow and will have my settings all figured out, so I'll probably have a better idea of it then, but today it wasn't too bad. Facebook was pinging me everything and I did the update over 4G and was playing with the camera and the phone in general all day and was down to about 50% after like 6 hours. That was pretty heavy usage though.

Twenty Six hours what were you doing on your phone nothing? Really it lasted long wow! Can't wait to test mine out. But I work this weekend and get no signal where I work so I am charging my phone at work so I can't really test it till my next day off.

I made it 26.5 hours on my last charge. Moderate use and 6 hours of sleep. I don't know how anyone could complain about battery life here...

Well, I came to a realization before I pulled the trigger on ebay. I bought an Otterbox with my 3VO and read a review that it was a kind of a pain to take off and put on constantly and came to the conclusion that I would prefer this:

Energizer XP4001 Universal Rechargeable Power Pack

I have a smaller capacity one that I used for my last phone (the 1000mAh one) and that worked great for it. The one linked above is 4000 mAh I believe which would charge the Evo 3D two times over :D

I use my phone a lot for texting. So it's not like I wasn't using it. I even had an hour long phone call on it. I just got it too, so you know how that is. You're on it a lot doing all sorts of stuff just to play with it. I just have everything but 3G turned off and some minor power savings settings activated. 26.5 hours!... Granted that included 6 hours of me sleeping and not using it, but I seriously don't know how these reviewers are complaining about it. It's MUCH better than my old Palm Pre.

Does this phone use a trickle charger? Yesterday i was stuck on 99% for like a few hours. It was constantly charging, not discharging the whole time.

I am not sure, but since reading the few threads about the battery taking forever to do a full charge, so i decided to check mine with a battery widget to see, and you are correct, it says 99%, but I would not worry about it. IMO

I woke up at 10 this am and on my OG EVO it would be on 93% or less in no time and I would always plug it back in. But now it's 11:35 and I am on 91% and I keep turning on the screen when it goes off cause I love my purple passion skin and how everything is purple. LOL! But I read some mail and text and I played part of a Netflix that works great and the movie looked so good on the screen. Now I really need a kickstand case. I think I'll not plug it in and see how long it last but I have to work and I get no signal down in my casement of my work. I'm gonna turn off 3G and we have wifi I'll use it.

None yet.

Agreed to the bump charging. Disabling features that you never plan to use much is fair game to me, and doesn't count as handicapping the phone.

I have a toggle to disable/enable 3G. At home and work, I have wifi, which is a battery sipper. 3G is a big drain for me (as it is with any other phone), so I toggle it off unless I need to check email or surf outside of the home or office. That alone improves battery life a TON. Because let's say your phone is poorly configured, and crap you don't need are still syncing... they can't sync if 3G is off. And on wifi, the sync happens with much greater power efficiency.

Stuff like facebook, friendstream widget, news and stocks, Gtalk app, etc are all enabled out of the box. I use none of them, so I turned them all off. I keep things signed off unless I need them.

Without root, my phone battery would drain about 1% an hour on standby after I disabled stuff I didn't want. No task killing. After rooting and some more configuration, I get 0.25% drain every hour on standby.

Battery life can be excellent on the Evo. You just need to do a little homework.

Texting doesn't use 3G or wifi, so you can disable both of those radios when you're primarily texting. Huge battery saver. For phone use, you're at the mercy of your signal strength, and this battery drain is pretty phone-independent. Poor reception will drain the battery of any phone. Moderate web surfing... turn on 3G when you need to surf; turn it off when you're done. Try to use wifi hotspots as much as possible.

Based on your usage pattern, most of your battery drain will come from radio use, not CPU. So with a little radio management, you can get awesome battery life. This is true for any phone.

id have to agree! i disable everything. only contact sync stays on, and i dont use widgets, if i need something updated i do it manually, lower brightness and 3g stays off unless needed! works well!

Battery life for me has been very good. I am on my second cycle, first tiem I let it die, then charged it while it was off, then the second time I did the same, so its been going for almost 30 hours, moderate use, maybe 20-25 emails, an hour long call, played spiderman 3d for 15 minutes, watched one of the 3d videos I made, watched a few 3d pictures, played homerun battle, checked out 4 sites, again, moderate use, but I am still in the green, so to me battery life is always subjective, keep in mind, gps is off, no 4g, I have no 4g in my area anyways, wifi turned off 90% of the time, only had it on to dload those 5 updates. I am very happy thus far...
