So I go to try that tagger idea, and all day, the blasted Cap won't hook to 4 different computers. GRRRRRR. I almost straddled it across 2 dominoes, and was ready to give it a karate chop. pos!! My Moto Razr RE was a better phone. Called att, Samsung, and went to store. No help whatsoever. Bunch of dipsticks !!!100.00+ a month for voice calling, basically. Can't get it to pair and connect with my main pc thru bluetooth, either. What a pos !
BTW, it did work on usb for a few months, and suddenly, it won't connect. Tried all the web ideas. It's bricked, almost.
And, according to the net, there's a jillion folks that are having the same problem. How could they put out such crap? I'm not a happy camper with Samsung.
Done it all. Mass, Kies, notify, etc. 2.2 is different, and with 2.2, it would bring up the dialogue, to give opportunity to hit mass storage, then a little android would come up, and below that hit connect, and up would come the window on pc. Now, all I get is nothing, or the "usb device unrecognized" balloon. I've tried my other 2 cables, which are also data, to no avail. They tried it down at AT&T store, and no luck. And I tried it on 2 other pc's that it used to connect to. Gotta be the phone hardware, or something on phone os that suddenly went wrong. Software? I haven't dloaded anything from market lately. I'll try a cpl. more days, then a call to Samsung. Just hate calling these big corps. Always less than satisfying.
I guess I can't brag anymore to my friends about how much better this CAP is than their IP4. Theirs are still working fine. And, definitely better cameras. GRRRR.+
Sounds definitely like a cable/hardware issue. Either the cable is goofy (the Captivate is VERY fussy about cables) or the connector on the phone is bad, which means the phone must be replaced. What did the AT&T store suggest?
3 different cables that have always worked, and I eye louped the contacts on phone. Hard to see them clearly, but one looks questionable. But, that happens to be one of the charging contacts. So, that's not the problem. The 2 outside contacts are the charging circuit. The 3 center contacts do have slight groves in them from repeated cable insertion/removal. Not a heavy duty socket, for sure. Tried R. Shack contact cleaner, and a thin toothpick to clean them. They do look better, but, still no joy.
The store gave a me a no to call. No joy there, either. she acted like she new "nothing" Told me to call Samsung. And, it's still in warranty, according to local yokal.
I have an older Asus EEE, with Linux. Just tried that, and still no joy. The usb diagnostics doesn't see the phone at all.
Can you get it into download mode? Turn off the phone. Press and hold the vol. up. and vol dn. at the same time and plug in the usb cable... or turn on USB debugging? If the PC still doesn't recognize the phone, then I would have to say it's definitely hardware.
Yessir, done all that, seemingly a hundred times. I'm about ready to do a hard reboot, and see what happens. Gotta do some thinking on how to get my files. Photos, music, contacts. Then, I spose it's a pain to get my paid apps working again.I am ready to go trail ripping, to get rid of my frustrations and anger. Oh wait, the gub'mnt has most of the woods closed.
I'll look into that tagger pgm. The problem, the players won't recognize genres properly. Most are lies, and a lot of Genres, mostly oldies aren't shown at all. I think maybe it's because I have everything tagged with ID3v2, and apparently I need to re-tag with just ID3v1. Trouble is, a lot of my music has really long titles, which ID3v1 won't display the whole title. Oh well, not that big a deal. Just trying to polish the phone up a bit. I'll look at the pgm you mentioned, when I have some time. Thanks again.![]()
