New VM phone

Rumor of $275-300 with a min $35 per month plan, rumor only nothing official.

Hopefully thats close to the actual price...i can deal with the 35 dollars...still better than 92 a month with sprint for the same plan

I highly doubt that Virgin would raise the price with the Triumph to $35/mo. when the Optimus V is only $25/mo. The Triumph will cost more upfront but will be on the same regular Beyond Talk plan ($25 for 300 min or $40 for 1,200 min). There's no way that the LG and Motorola phones will be on different Virgin plans than each other.

As far as comparing Virgin plans to Sprint plans... just remember that Sprint prices not only take into account much larger phone subsidies but also blazing fast 4G (WiMax), available in virtually all urban areas. Virgin phones are locked in to just 3G so it's not the "real" Sprint network anymore.

I see this as a $250 or $275 phone going on the same tried and true Beyond Talk $25/$40 plans (300 or 1,200 minutes).

By the way, did anyone notice that it runs Froyo (Android 2.2) instead of Gingerbread (2.3)? That is pretty peculiar. There are plenty of phones out there in people's hands already that are running Gingerbread... this thing hasn't even come out yet and it's expected to run the old Froyo?

I'm sure someone will figure out how to get G'bread on this phone, but it just strikes me as a bit of a strange move with no obvious benefit for either Virgin or customers.

Virgin- I didn't have 4g on my sprint plan, I had a smartphone plan on a palm pixi with just 3g and I was paying 92 a month. And I didn't say their service was bad or anything (i actually loved it) I just couldn't afford paying that much for it, and for less money I got basically what I was paying for with sprint.
Also I was just going along with the"rumored" prices and inserting my opinion lol.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Kinda sucks but that phone is still badass regardless. I'm sure not to far down the road after its released, someone will figure out how to root it and run a custom 2.3 rom on it. I want the phone regardless though lol.

Wouldn't Virgin automatically update it to 2.3, as well? Like Verizon did a couple weeks ago with the Droid X, Droid Pro, Droid 2, etc.?

If the Optimus V and Intercept are still running 2.2, maybe Virgin just wants to update them all at the same time. Not sure if this is true, but it would seem to make sense.

I'm in Michigan around the Ohio border so I have no idea if VM's 3G and call quality will be any good. If I can get at least 1 mbps on 3G, I would have no complaints at all.

I would definitely check the coverage map for your area and do actual tests before you jump ship. I just had to check muskegon and they seem to have good coverage. If all works out with the motorola phone then I'm gonna send my dad my v.

about the gingerbread update yeah it's pretty strange that it came out with froyo instead of gingerbread. I hope that at least we get the they might wait till icecream to update this. I know google has this new agreement that phones with android have to be able to be updated for 18 months after they have been released. So none of that motorola i1 samsung behold crap anymore..... maybe depends on the credibility of an article I just read

Yep, this is where I'm going to take advantage of VM's 30 day return policy and really try out the network.

Otherwise, it's T-Mobile for me.

ahh, tmobile sucks lol
What kind of 3g speeds do you guys get on Virgin? I average about 1.6mbps down and 0.8 up on Cricket. The fastest I've had were about 2 down and 1 up. I'm looking at nicer phones, but I don't want to have a slower network to get it. Thanks for any replies.

VM Canada and all other VM's are in no way connected with VMUSA! VMUSA was bought buy sprint some years ago. think of VMUSA as sprint mini. sprint decided to buy up prepaid brands instead of creating sprint prepaid or something along those lines. i for one thought it was a great move. plus with boost sprint has double the shelf space as other prepaid carriers.

I already know this I still want a high-end phone and would gladly pay for one...

It figures an awesome new phone would come out and I haven't had my Optimus V six months yet. I can't see spending another $300 just yet ... although ... I did scratch the screen

Great let the countdown begin......
