can anyone help me on how to download 2.2 on samsung captivate?

In order to update a Captivate to 2.2 you must do this though Kies mini.

You can download it from Samsung directly.

When you install Kies, launch it before you connect the phone and install the drivers if you don't have them installed yet.

Then plug in your phone via the USB cable that came with the phone and it should prompt you that an update is available.
 
I thought I would post in here instead of making a topic of my own.

I am wanting to update to 2.2 as well, and have downloaded Kies and everything. There is a problem though. Whenever I have connected my phone and have opened kies, it says "unable to connect to server at this time, please try again later". I'm rather impatient and have waited only about an hour to start looking for answers or solutions.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it a known problem? Are there specific times when the server is up and when it is not?

Did you install Kies or Kies Mini? Make sure it's Kies Mini. Also, make sure your phone is set to Kies in USB Settings (Settings> Applications> USB Settings). Start Kies mini first and then plug your phone in.
 
I think i have a different version of 2.2 than the official one and its causing me to have problems getting updates to install.. so can i go from the version of 2.2 that i have to a newer 2.2?

Yes, it is indeed Kies Mini. I changed the USB setting to Kies, and prior to that it was in USB debugging mode.

I started Kies Mini first and plugged in my phone, and it installed some new driver software, but after it finished that, same story. "Unable to connect to server at this time, please try again later" :(

I have been using Kies 1.5.3 (not mini) on an XP laptop .... thats been working OK. I seem to recall when i set this up 6 months ago that someone on this forum warned against newer versions of kies .... so just get 1.5.x not newer.

Drivers can be a huge problem ... you may want to uninstall and reinstall. Do it thru the XP Windows Add/Remove routine .... i was finding that the samsung uninstall was not cleanly removing the old drivers and reinstalling over top of present drivers was not working properly.

I keep getting "unable to connect to server at this time" whe I follow the Samsung instructions on my Captivate.

Any help ????
 
I've downloaded Kies mini & during the installation wizard a pop up box - Connect to 61.109.169.252 asking me for a username & password. I can't cancel out of it - won't let me proceed with the kies installation. I didn't find anything on this in the Kies FAQ.

Help!

I spent an hour and eleven minutes on the phone with cell south today to find out nothing. I was told to run a check disk on my drive, repair errors, reboot and see if it would work. No go. They then told me that the issue was an old OS. I use XP - which is in the list of compatible Operating Systems. I got off the phone with them and started digging. The fix for installing mini kies to XP is to download and install Windows Media Format 11 PRIOR to installing the mini-kies software that Cellular South provides. The IP address that you are prompted to connect to (with the username and password) is a Samsung address in South Korea. It hosts the zipped file of WMF 11. For whatever reason the installer of mini kies on XP fails to authenticate to that site. I installed WMF 11 and then installed mini-kies with no problem at all. okay i am having an issue on installing the driver to the phone. nothing is happening all i have is the dowloading screen on my phone it has been 30 mins. thanks for the help!
 
Well it appears after many months Samsung/ATT have not seen fit to make Kies Mini work with Windows 7 64 bit. Unbelievable. When I connect using the Kies Mini option nothing happens. Fortunately I have a 32 bit Windows XP machine. I'm going to try it on that machine.
