Help EVO 3d Small text fix?

Ahhh the price to pay for a higher resolution display for my EVO 3D.

Side by side with my GF's EVO4g I see the difference in the people list or messaging text size side by side.

Does anyone forsee a fix that will phone wide enlarge the seriously reduced text size in the 3d?

Is it something HTC needs to roll out or software developers in future updates or a combination of both?

Thanks!!!

You can change the text size in messaging. Go into a message thread and hit menu and go into more options then scroll down a little and you should see an option for text size in there. It's a nice feature with about six different size choices.

It already is at "LARGEST" and that pales in comparison to the evo 4g.

Thanks,

Jeff

Well, I just pulled out the 'ol Evo 4G and fired it up, then set the Evo 3D to 'Largest' and they look pretty comparable in size to me.

Alot of people use 3rd party applications for their messaging, maybe they can weigh in and let you know if any of them have good settings for making the text bigger than the stock application.

I keep my Evo 3D set to smallest, but I don't want to come across un-sympathetic. I think its probably a good idea for HTC to have a global setting for people with more visual needs, just like they have a earpiece and volume settings for people with more auditory needs. Microsoft did well when they added 'Ease of Access' settings to Windows 7 (Vista might have 'em too).

Really? my evo 4g vs evo 3d side by side especially in "people" was VERY noticeable.
Hard to see in 3d easy on eyes in 4g

Well, my posts have been directed at only the stock messaging applications. The settings in messaging only control the text size in the messaging application. I compared the largest Evo 3D message text and the stock Evo 4G message text and they looked very similar in size to my eyes.

The "people" application is a different problem that someone else that has some other knowledge can tackle. I looked for options in "people" but there were not any that help this situation. You'll probably have to go the 3rd party route or contact HTC.

For customization like that you really do have to go 3rd party (which I see as a plus lol)

Handscent lets you go giganto font if you really want to, like 2 words per line

I don't use the "people" app so I couldn't help you on that one

What's the best "People" alternative which can give a giant appearance?

Where in handscent is the text enlarger? cant seem to find it.

Ah, should have clarified a little

I don't use any contacts application lol, I just use the default google search widget and start typing their name, it pops up after a few letters depending on how many people you have in your contacts

I'm sure 3rd party contact apps exist, I just don't use one so maybe someone else can pop in and help out

I suggest trying it my way first ;) very convenient

Edit: @evoguy in the main list of messages hit settings then hit custom style then either "conversation list settings" or "bubble settings" (one for the main list and the other for actual messages)

It definitely made the name of my contact super large, but therir actual text messages are still small, can the messages themselves be increased in font height?

EDIT: got it for incoming and outgoing bubble font...Lastly in the compose window, can the font be made larger?

Double Edit: Much larger font when texting in Portrait mode, in landscape mode default back to very small text...

Whever a handscent text window appears in landscape mode ready for huge fonts, the second i start typing it switches to defaults to HTC screen with tiny fonts

Thanks again,

Jeff

Hmm the compose window?

You mean when you hit "new message" at the top left? Or do you just mean the text entry box when you're in a pre-existing thread?

it's the text entry box in a pre existing thread, the second I tap on in it switches to a text window that takes up half the screen in landscape mode from left to right and beneath that a fullscreen keyboard that when you input goes back to small fonts, though the same procedure in portait mode yields LARGE fonts.

In other words, bubble view disaapears when i switch to landscape mode to type.

Now too if GO contacts could blow up the contacts view I'd be a happy camper. People in evo 3d is too small for my eyes. Has to be a replacement for people that gives LARGE text

Thanks,

Jeff

Hmm yeah I think that's just the nature of handcent, for some reason when in landscape mode the text entry box gets huge and you can't see the bubbles anymore

That's kind of a pro for someone who has trouble seeing the font though, I'd think

I don't ever type in landscape though so I'm not sure I can help you with that one

Handscape brings up it's own NON bubble window to type in but the second its tapped the keyboard pops up and text size becomes small

Thnaks anyway, you've been a big help.

Now onto an alternative to People since GO contacts does not have an option to increase size of contacts names

Jeff

I only tried it a little bit, but Go Contacts looked like the default font was pretty big, way above an Evo stock.

Btw, I just wanted to say that I am learning a lot in this thread. :)

Looked big on the evo 3d?

Side by side to 4g using go contacts, stark difference.

Again, all this because the higher pixel density on the 3d, so everything will look smaller.

Pffft. I'm an idiot. Can't make screen shots of sensitive information. :p

Anyway, you were right, I was wrong. Optical illusion - the Go Contacts fit fewer to a screen than People, but measuring the size of the capital letters on either, they're both exactly 2 mm, so that must be the system font size. The Evo People caps are exactly 0.1 inches (2.54 mm) or 25% taller.

If you could see a name clearly to tap it, the underlying info is large and clear.

The caps in Gesture Search are also 0.1 inches tall. I was looking for a workaround, but don't see how to tie Gesture Search to Go Contacts. Didn't try everything.

Sorry. :( :(

PS - didn't see anything on font adjustments in Go Contacts.

Looked up fonts last night and just confused myself.

Just did some quick googling, came up with this: Contacts Plus - Android

Contacts Plus, seems like a similar deal to Handcent, just a 3rd party app to replace the one on the phone that's more customizable

Lists "Change font size" in the features, so seems like it should fit the bill.

Let me know if you try it and it works :)

EDIT: Just installed it myself, seems to work perfect for what you wanted :)

Only thing is when I increased font size it increased the font in the list of contacts, but when I clicked a contact it was normal sized to show the info, not sure if that's a deal breaker for you or not

And I did find system wide font size adjustment apps but so far, root only.

Contacts Plus is in the Market.

Edit - boy, if we could mate Contacts Plus front end with Go Contacts back end, that would make for a large, worthwhile combo.

But I don't see a way to clear People as the default.

You guys rock!

So if I root my 3d ( oooyyy vey) I can really make phone wide font changes?
