Closing the Internet browser

Sorry if this is a repost. I tried to do a search as I would with other similar forums and got no similar posts..

Is there any way to "close" the Internet Browser when not in use? The back button just keeps going back in history until the homepage. I would like to be able to turn it completely off when I am not using it.

There shouldn't be a need to close it, as it doesn't use any power while not in use. If you must for whatever reason then do this:

Go to Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications --> select the "Running Applications" tab (oddly enough this is different than the running applications list one level up) --> select "Internet" --> select "Force Stop"

With dolphin browser, if you 'hold' the back button, you get an option to exit/close. Not sure if it's the same with the stock browser or not, though

It doesn't do what author wanted, it only closes the internet browser if it's currently running.

Would be really convenient if there was an "X" button or key to close it.
Because right know an user in order to close the internet browser on Android must go to task manager and click on exit button next to internet app. which is under "active applications' bar".

Press menu then windows. Tap on the x's then when you get to the last one press the plus button then select Google. Closed.
