Release date is July 31st

As much as I would like for it to be in July, that is just the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Q3 = July thru Sept if I am not mistaken (of a calendar year).

Well Currently the Sprint phones that offer Worldmode (850/1900 CDMA and 900/1800 GSM) and Advance worldmode on the Sprint Network are...

As you can see from the image (click on it to open the spreadsheet if you want to sort), I predict the Photon will be $299 but looking how the HTC Pro 2 came out at $349.99 and the Photon has better features it might be priced even higher.

TS

Im going to say 250 at the highest. While the HTC is priced as high as it was the price of technology is coming down and the Atrix 4G which is the most similar phone wasnt that high.

I cannot say if the Photon 4G is going to have an unlocked Sim card slot, since no one has yet to dissect it, most of the phones I listed above allow for pre-paid sims besides the default one.

Yet, in the reviews for the HTC Touch Pro 2, there is no mention if it allows for pre-paid sim cards.

The phones stay connected to CDMA here in the states, once overseas they go into gsm mode. Its my understanding if you stay with the default sprint issued sim card you will be hit with international roaming charges. I'm hoping that the Photon 4G allows for unlocked sims so that one can get a sim card at the airport and not have to deal with Sprint international charges.

TS

That would really be helpful and in the spirit of their unlimited campaign. I dont think it will happen though. Its just too much of a cash cow opportunity.

There is a photoshop fail in that article. In the videos of the phone when you kick out the kickstand and set it down the phone hops into landscape mode and a picture shows it in portrait mode with the kickstand out.

One thing Im really curious about is how loud the speakers on the phone will be. It doesnt look like it has much of a speaker on the back or front. One of the things I really do like about my EVO is the speaker since its pretty loud.

I think the wildcard is the Galaxy S II, it is selling like crack around the world. I think the Photon is on hold until the release date of the S II is finalized. If the S II gets delayed to august, photon should release at the end of this month. If the S II is ready, it will push the release of the photon back.

even-though I am not interested in the S II, (It's great but my next phone has to have a dedicated camera button), I am sure that Moto and sprint do not want the photon to go head to head with that beast.

And a typo, I don't have much faith at all in this linked article.

Os the tegra 2 dual core processor faster the the snapdragon dualcore processor? or are they about the same as far as speed, performance, graphics

Well, I will try to explain it. The tegra 2 is said to have a better GPU but a weaker cpu compared to the snapdragon. But in a cell phone, this is a good thing because if coded properly it is much better for battery life to have the GPU do more of the work. So you can run the CPU at a lower speed. Example. The EVO 3d uses it's 1.2 dual core snapdragon to do most of the heavy lifting but it uses massive amounts of power in the process. The photon (and this is just in theory at this point) should be able to preform at the same or higher level but use much less power. The other major power issue are the screens, both devices are almost the same in this area. The radio's in both should also be the same. The GS2 has a much more efficient screen than both the EVO 3d and photon, giving it a much better battery life then those devices.

That was an awesome article to wake up to on my vacation, but I'm trying to remember how long after the EVO's status was changed to "Coming Soon" that it was released. I think it was about 1 month, right?

So are we possibly looking at early August release?

I dont want to seem like a downer here but the 3D had the coming soon tag for awhile and its delays kept it out of consumer hands for awhile.

I'll try to stay positive and be a fan boy here haha. I would think that the Evo3d had a lot more bugs to work through what with the 3d element and all. That's probably what delayed the launch of the Evo3d. This phone's biggest hurtle is probably the multiple radios since it's a world phone, everything else should just be standard Android and Motoblur stuff. unless there is some ground breaking function they haven't told us about they should be pretty far a long in the revisions process to fix all the bugs.

with more rumors of a delay in the GS 2, it makes sense this device will release sooner than later. The Evo 3d sales have been lackluster and I have been hearing of many buyers returning them. Hopefully sprint will release this phone in the GS2 place on the 24th of July. Fingers crossed.

It was bound to happen. I see something that I do not like about the Photon 4G already. I'll explain after the quote.

Regardless if the article has a Photoshop image or a typo, I have seen videos of the Photon in action and in each one I noticed that once you flip open the kickstand it goes into landscape mode. it does not go into landscape when you turn the phone sideways. I currently love that feature on my EVO 4G and yes I know that the default EVO 4G did not go into landscaped mode unless you add a custom rom, but its annoying to see that on the Photon.

Something tells me that HTC is not going to be left behind and will also make a CDMA Android World phone, to compete with this baby.

Another issue I am having is that there is no mention anywhere of having a laptop dock like in the Atrix. Only a desktop dock has been shown.
I do hope that Motorola/Sprint see that its in their best interests to provide a Atrix style laptop dock for this phone. Especially since this is going to be geared to both the regular consumer and the business users alike. Consumers that travel alot much like business users would need a laptop and having a portable less weight laptop instead of a heavy bloated laptop will make things easier while traveling.

Ok rant off. :D

As for the coming soon image, I sure hope so.

That's where Launcher Pro Plus or Go Launcher come in handy! : )

Not to get off topic, but which of the launchers is better? Do they cause more crashes, or eat batteries? Will this get rid of the motoblur stuff?....I am not a huge fan of the blur, but they might have improved it.

for God sake ...someone please just spill the beans on a date and price! cmon moto!!! we have been waiting for a Moto android phone from sprint since android was given birth
