I don't know about 100%, but so far everything seems to be working for me on my HTC Droid Incredible (including video recording and gps) using CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-inc. And it is running Android 2.3.4! :D

I have been using CM7 ROMs for months now.

fast, clean, good battery life, and well-supported based on my experience.

X2 for CM7

Yeah, they have to move the stand alone GPS setting, swap position of Google location services option with Verizon location services option so you accidentally choose the wrong one. Add in VZ Navigator on a phone with Google nav, add their $$$ app store, their must have apps like City I'D, Slacker, Skype, all this takes time and resources.

Wastes time and resources putting them in, wastes phone resources, an wastes our time trying to remove this junk.
I was not going to respond to this but I feel it is my duty to set things straight....

What you dont understand is that all these apps pre-installed on the phone make money for Verizon. For example, City ID, Slacker, and others PAY Verizon to install on each phone. There is BIG money in this. Slacker for example made a great choice paying Verizon as Pandora was clearly the top music app in the past.

Verizon is by far the #1 network in the US. They can and do get away with things like this with an absolute clear conscious. Their motto is if you dont like it, leave. Thats just the way things are.

And if they didn't do this, they would just make the money some other way...like upping the monthly service fees (although they could kill the Verizon Navigator and V-Cast app store without too much bother).

Load it up Verizon. If it keeps my costs lower. I am all for it.

This is the time in the thread where people start calling and emailing HTC and Verizon and posting their replies as gospel.

HTC has an awesome form letter that makes you think they answered the question.

Evan,

I understand about the revenue this crap generates.
I own some VZ stock. It pays a great dividend.

But as a customer, it seems sometimes like they're intentionally misleading you to charge you more than necessary. Like VZ Navigator on a phone with Google Nav, and installing or making available "free" apps that have fees associated with them. That may help the bottom line, but it'd dishonest when you're "already paying for the service."

Back to the point at hand..the 11th, I got my last update a few days after the first reports. Any idea you know how these roll outs work after the initial release of the update?

Makes sense. So my question is if these apps are preinstallation on my phone and Verizon is making big money off of apps bring installed on MY phone where is my cut? Why isn't my bill any lower then? Pass it on down to the little guys.

It is lower. If you ever look at Verizon's quarterly revenue reports, you'd be shocked at how small their profit margins really are. As an example:

Verizon reports quarterly revenue slip, rise in smartphone customers | Sprint Connection | News and views on Sprint Nextel

These aren't the most recent results, but it's a quarter within the last year, so it's a relevant example. For this particular quarter, Verizon generated $26.5 BILLION (with a B). Net income (profit) was $2.68 BILLION. That is roughly 10%, a respectable margin.

Now, according to a page on Wikipedia, VZW has roughly 104 million subscribers. If you divide the gross income by the number of subscribers, you get $25.77 profit per user for that quarter, or $8.59/month. So, the average user is paying $8.59/month of their bill as pure profit. More than likely, certain customers (like me and my grandfathered $10 unlimited data plan) are LOSING them money. Not every customer is profitable.

It's not a charity. Verizon has to generate profit. Far too many people just assume that most of their phone bill is pure profit. It's not.

Ok.....I understand that. I know it's a business and they need to make money. I just didn't realize all that info.....way too many numbers for me to sit and figure out.....lol. Thnx for enlightening me.....and I mean that sincerely.

call me dumb but is there any rom that is 100% functional? i.e. GPS, video recording
i like skyraider. used 3.5 for a while. stable, everything worked fine. using sr4 now and loving it. also using lous8 kernel and a evo 3500mAh battery and can go 48 hours before a recharge with moderate to heavy use.

i tried cm7 several times but was buggy for me. i really liked it when it would flash, but just too unstable (not the rom, but my phone i guess). unable to flash miui, but sounds like a really good one. i switch between Incredibly Re-engineered 2.4 and sr4 when i need something new. IR2.4 is fast, fast, fast.

DInc: sr4, Lou's#8 kernel, LPro, amazon EVO 3500mAh battery, Juice Defender=great battery.

hope this helps.

Tangent sort of:

I totally understand what you're saying here. Verizon is a business and their purpose for existing is to make money. However, and this goes for other companies too, it's just frustrating to be a pawn in their game of sacrificing user experience/customer satisfaction for the sake of making $8.59/per month and not being just fine with making $8.57/month (for example). I mean those 2 cents are the difference between having an acceptable, usable mobile experience vs. having a device that is slowed down by seemingly endless loads of bloatware and unnecessary Verizon branded services.

Its just frustrating on this end of the whole chain of revenue.

I hope this isn't invitation for a debate of business practices

So you delete posts that question the validity of "Evan", but you leave his posts when there is tons of evidence that "Evan" is just making stuff up. I'll tell you, often forums will "create" new members that post lots of BS in hopes of keeping the topics interesting. Think this is the case.

Posts calling people trolls are against forum policy. regardless if its warranted or not.

Evan has ignored my PM but he gets the benefit of the doubt since its a holiday weekend. This situation is being discussed by staff and the proper action will be taken. Till then PLEASE abide by the Rules/Guidelines (in my sig). Say what you will, ask for prof (i reiterated medions request for build.prop in my pm) but do so RESPECTFULLY.

Thanks for understanding

Keep it to the issues and don't get personal, folks. Just report posts that violate the rules (in my signature you'll find the link to the rules).

Greetings to the community! I wanted to leave a remark on this because I can a lot of confusion over the release of updates. That's good because that's what this thread is for! However, I also noticed that there is at least one person giving others the impression that they speak on behalf of VZW. I'd like to advise you to avoid feedback from anyone that is not confirmed to be authorized to speak on behalf of VZW. Officially, we do not yet have a release date for Gingerbread, and do not yet officially know all that the update will address or resolve. Thanks for your attention!

Honestly. This type of reply is what frustrates many about VZW when it comes to updates. Officially they never say anything until the day before or day of the update. Some departments do not even know it is coming when it is out.

It is well noted above that you did not deny the validity of the posters facts but just stated the "official " Verizon position.

I am a huge Verizon supporter and I am vocal that I believe them to be the best out there. However, communication, both internal and to customers, is poor.

On the other hand it adds to the enjoyment of these types of threads. I still think every poster should guess at end of their comments what the date will be for first update. I got July 11

I appreciate the effort in making this post, but this is all meaningless. We all know that an official VZW will be made, but that doesn't do us any good when we are waiting months for information. In addition, we all know that any non-official VZW statement can be unreliable, but that won't keep us for asking for the information.

Doesn't this post mean you are not abiding by the rules of employment of VZW? Posting on forums during work hours. Not well work ethics? I bet there is a policy about that.

Unless you work for that specific company, it's kind of hard to guess what their rules of employment are or what their work ethics are as different companies have different rules.

It appears as though this user is legit and they even say that they are part of VZW's Social Media Response Team (so I imagine that playing around online is a large part of the job).

:)

Guess that post was the equivalent of:
"Move along, nothing to see here!"

Hopefully that wasn't his real name, nor did he post from a corporate computer/phone.

Guess we know where they spend all that bloatware revenue.
Think the official VZW Social Media Response Team comes cheap?!

They spend that money on bloatware to subsidize your phone.

Given that, there might be a market for an 800 dollar phone without the bloatware.

Must I point out that Evan's legitimacy and an actual murder trial are not exactly the same thing?

People, aside from the smug superiority one might feel by "proving" someone's legit or a troll, there's not really anything to gain by doing either. His enlightened prophecy will come true or his evil lies will be uncovered. Let it happen. In any event, it won't bring an update to my phone any quicker.

Rather than speculate on some dude (or dudette, for all we know), maybe we should speculate (with no actual data, of course :D) on something that matters, like whether the phone's battery life will definitely improve or definitely worsen, or whether the data-full errors will/won't go away.

I can say from the asop roms the battery life won't get much better

Anyone want to take a crack at a red imperial logo from star wars?

Along with that we need a Rebel one too.

Wanted to try my hand at some wallpapers. Still learning PhotoShop so this is good practice:)

I retained the PSD (photoshop format), so I can change it if needed (i.e. different background, solid background, resize, re-color, etc.)

Here ya go "TheGoatLantern" & "RawlingsSc". Hope these work for ya.

I don't really care what they put on the phone anyway. I just bring it home, root it and delete all the crap anyway.

I'm sorry if my post didn't yeild the details that everyone here is so eager to get. Please appreciate that my intention was not to provide details of anything prior to being given authorization to do so. Rather my purpose to is to try to explain our positioning thus far on this topic. It's been stated here that our internal policies might prevent me from releasing information without authorization. I agree with this.

And yes, I am really a Verizon Wireless employee. In fact, it is my job to do so. As a member of VZW's Social Media Response Team, I am fully authorized to post on threads, blogs and forums when our input seems warranted. So I will be posting these threads from time to time. Thanks again for your attention!

Dion, thank you for your post but what is very frustrating is the official position is always the same no matter what. So, I feel confident that I could write your replies for you.

Wouldn't it just be easier to say that Verizon never officially communicates the status of updates in any form until the PDF shows up on the website?

I'm going to reiterate what has been said by the other mods in this thread: Keep to the topic at hand (or atleast some discussion that is relevant to the topic at hand) and do NOT post personal attacks on other members. Those that cannot abide by these simple requests will be, and have been, dealt with accordingly
