Root Rooting & ShabbyMod Questions

Do I have to root my phone before installing ShabbyMod? Or will ShabbyMod automatically root my phone when it's installed?

Also, what exactly does ShabbyMod change on the phone? I know it adds/removes apps. Does it fix bugs? Or change the stock interface/colors etc at all from what Samsung has it set at?

for example the changelog says
- added gps tweaks (so does this mean that the gps is improved over stock?)
- now with more 3g (3g faster, or what?)

thanks for the explanations ^.^ really wanting to root my phone and shabbymod it, but since there's no going back to stock I'd like to understand whats gonna happen

Yes, you will need to Root before you flash ShabbyMod.
ShabbyMod is completely separate from One Click Root.

As best as I know ShabbyMod does make your phone run faster and smoother. It doesn't change your stock's interface/colors, not yet at least. I think they're working on some things to customize.

You CAN unroot and go back to stock. There is a One Click Unroot so you can revert back to stock at anytime. I've personally done this twice already and then went back to rooting and ShabbyMod.

No. If you delete them they are gone (unless you back them up properly with Titanium or something similar). Factory reset will not help you bring files back.

I downloaded the unroot awhile back from here. I don't recall which thread it was in but I've done it twice on my old Prevail. I was gonna upload it here as an attachment but it's limited to 10mb for zips. I'm gonna have to go through threads again to find where it is and who posted it.

the one i posted i removed due to it bricked one guys phone.. claimed he ran out of space...

Yea I just found the link to it. Right when I read you asking where it was, I backed out of this thread and it was right there in the thread list lol. Like I said I ran it twice before and had no issues but I understand you taking it down just in case someone else gets bricked. Hopefully it was just a fluke and you can bring it back again soon.

the issue it ran into was it ran out of space installing all the stuff.. not sure why either ill re enable the link, just add a forewarning that it can brick your phone and that you should do a wipe before and after just to be on teh safe side
