Release date is July 31st

Well I have an EVO 4G right now and it has gorilla glass and it is still very scratch able.

and it is only $7 at amazon anyway.

While to my knowledge it's never been confirmed, there were people who were saying that the first batch of EVOs did not have Gorilla Glass. When did you get yours?

I don't have a first batch EVO, but the EVO is listed at the gorilla glass makers web site. Gorilla glass can be easily scratched by sand anyway and I live by the beach.

you think this phone will be faster then the evo 3d or about the same?

Define faster.

The Tegra2 does well in benchmarks, but the Snapdragon eats up 1080P like candy while the Tegra2 chokes.

In real use, the differences will be small, but each phone will have its niche areas where they are flat out superior to the competition.

I like the fact that this phone has an extra mic for noise cancellation, every high end phone should have that, makes a huge difference with call clarity

motorola droid X has the noise cancelling mic and it worked well, people always complimented how clear the calls were

I don't meant to go off topic but am I the only one who sees no point in watching HD movies or clips on a cell phone? I know that was the big push with the Evo when it came out, but I just don't get the point on a cell phone. So I guess in the end having a phone that doesn't play 1080p video well just isn't a big deal to me.

Ever heard of HDMI?

I hear ya. I mean, unless you are hooked up to a charging source how could one watch an entire movie and not worry about having any battery for actual phone/text use for the rest of the day. And if you are somewhere that there is a charging source (home/work) then most would watch on a computer/ipad etc. The only use I see for it is in a car while plugged into the car charger or on a plane maybe but then your battery will be dead when you land. Like Burgertime, its not a big deal to me.

I watch movies on my phone during flights pretty regularly and bring some kinda pocket charger with me for that exact reason. I'm going to get a tablet for that reason when I'm flying to Korea this winter.

Ever heard of HDMI?

I have not used the HDMI port on my phone even once. The only reason I would use it is to play back video I recorded. To me the 1080p thing is just a novelty..but I digress and will go back on topic.

I'm curious to know where this July 22nd date came from as well....especially since we don't even have a price yet.

Yeah, the 22nd is a little odd considering no price has been announced and there is usually a 2-3 week lead up of marketing at least on the internet. I'd love the 22nd to be the date for my own personal needs, but I'm doubtful that's going to be the date.

They are spending so much money promoting the evo 3d, I would not be surprised if they just release the Photon with no Fan fair at all.

did you catch a glimpse of off contract price? im not a real believer in commitment ! lol

I can't find an off contract price for the Photon but the Evo 3D is $199 w/ contract & $549 without. I'd guess the Photon is going to be about the same, especially since it's being called a competitor.

This is very exciting news! When I bought the Evo, Best Buy enrolled me in the Buy Back program so this will be a test of how worthwhile that program really is.
