battery problem

I have posted this in the accesories section but never got a reply so here goes.
I bought a gold 2430mah battery off ebay. I have charged it with the phone switched on it it gets to 99% and wont go anymore.
I turned the phone off and let it charge untill the green led came on then switched the phone on and it displays around 94-96%.

Any ideas

What does your normal battery do?

I'll be honest and say I wouldn't trust those gold batteries one iota...

normal battery works fine, i bought this as a spare for going away camping. just downloaded battery monitor and its showing 780mAh instead of the 2430mAh, but wife's is showing 960mAh on her factory HTC batt

Battery Monitor does not show mAh (= battery capacity), it shows mA (= charging/discharging current).

So 780mA may be are ok

Try Current Widget, stick the widget on a home screen and when the phone gets to 99, see if the battery is still accepting charge. 0mAh would indicate it's not.

Edit - Or stick with what you've got, Harry2 posted as I was typing

Battery Monitor does not show mAh (= Battery capacity), it shows mA (= charging/discharging current).

So 780mA may be ok

OK, 44mA is not much, but with a full charged battery, it is not strange.

780mAh is a figure you have change to 2430mAh in the settings of Battery Monitor.
EDIT: 538 gives the % value of 780.

Thanks Harry, everytime i change the mAh is goes back to 780, im going to ask the seller to send out a genuine batt instead

You probably won't get a genuine battery of that capacity .

How much did you pay? If you're just going to take it camping it will do as a spare. Might be more hassle than it's worth sending back.

Alternatively, have you thought of an external battery?

At 99% now and 44mA, even trying charging it through laptop

That's fine, it's supposed to be doing that. At 99% and still accepting charge is cool, if it was 0mAh, there would be a problem.

Its been at 99% for well over an hour now
