So my phone has been rooted for awhile now. However, today was my first time having to use Wireless Tether and it is awsome. I thought it was going to be really slow, but its not. The internet is down but who cares when you have this right?? LOL

ahh I love my Hero!!!
 
This is great to know. How is the battery holding up? If I had not gotten the Mifi I would sure be tethering as well.

I dont charge on my laptop. Its plugged in. It is a battery kill but I just leave it plugged in

It does make my phone hot I noticed.
 
Considering the fact that my fastest speedtest so far has been over 2047 kbps down and 765 kbps up, I don't think tethering would be that bad. Especially if you charge the phone at the same time from the computer. Sure, it's not my 25 Mbps cable connection, but when in a bind it would still suffice. I tested it the other day to see how it worked, and I was pleased. It's way better than when I used to use tetherberry with my curve.
 
Just don't overdo it, if you go over 5gb of data you'll get dinged and if they see big spikes in data usage you might draw unwanted attention.

thats only for mifi's and data cards so far no one has said a word about tethering ovrages first month i did it i ahd 7gb of use and not one extra cent for a charge on my bill
 
I was under the impression if you have the 99 dollar simply everything plan you dont have a cap, even when tethering. Sprint never said a word when I was doing it on my Instinct and I used ALOT of data since it was my only internet connection.
I have a Mifi now for convienence and the portability.
 
I wish I had service at home to do it. My satellite internet is pretty poor, with some webpages rarely opening on the first try. I'd use tethering if I had steady cell service, since it'd probably be faster and more reliable than my satellite connection. Doesn't look like the two major cable companies in the area have any plans for bringing cable to us either...kind of sucks when there's cable lines 4 miles north, and 4 miles south of us.

That's good to know. When I bought the phone its one of the things they warned me about.

Oh and Tatonka, I was amazed at how poor broadband availability was in the Twin Cities when I lived there. And that was in and established neighborhood in Minneapolis.

Heck, the cities has great internet access these days. Even the closest town to me (Winona) has great access available to everyone. I'm just in one of those valleys that the companies don't care about. They're more concerned with running their cables along the major highways instead of reaching all their other potential customers in a timely matter. Our valley is about 8 miles long, and I'm right in the middle of it. At the bottom of the valley is HWY61 and the Mississippi river, with a Qwest line running along it, and Ace as well I believe. At the top of the valley is I-90, with an Ace cable running along there. But will either company bring a cable down through our valley? Of course not. Sucks, big time lol
