Connect to Android Market without Data Plan

Hello! I know this question has been asked numerous times, but I still need help.

I have a T-Mobile Comet and I have wi-fi access. The problem is that I cannot connect to the Android Market. My GPRS is blocked and my phone used to connect to the Market (even when the GPRS was blocked), but I reset my phone and it's not workling. PLEASE HELP!!!

And thanks!

I think, you will need a usable SIM card for to sign in again in your Google account even if you are connected by WiFi.

I already have a SIM card inserted. I can make calls and access the internet, but the Android Market is not working.

OK, that did I mean :)

After a factory reset, your next step would be to sign in at your Google account.

How do I sign in a Google Account?

I pressed the Market App and then it says to add a google accont. should I choose the Browser sign in or the default way?

FYI, you shouldn't need a sim to connect to the Market. You can log in and register your phone with WiFi connections only.

Just to verify, you do have an active wifi connection? When you say the Market is not working, you open the Market app and what happens?

Have you gone to the Android Market and logged in to see if your phone is listed?

I do have an active wifi connection.

When press the Market App, it says: Cannot establish a reliable dataconnection to the server.

My phone is listed in market.

Good. There are two things I would look at. First, how strong is your WiFi signal? If you are only seeing on little green bar in your notification tray, you might want to try and get a better signal to test it. Also, the Market requires data port 5228 on your router's firewall be open for incoming traffic. If your router is blocking it, you might have problems.

the signal is really good. And I am currently in a public library with wifi. So should I try to connect from my home's wifi?

And just wondering, shold I log in with the "Browser sign in" menu or the default sign in?

And by the way, the "data enabled" option is turned off, will that make a difference? And please don't forget that my GPRS is already turned off from T-Mobile.

Go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Add account -> Google account > and sign in at your Google account.

Then reach the Market again :)

Most definitely. Many public WiFi routers have all ports blocked except for 80 (HTTP), 25 (SMTP) and 110 (POP3).

I don't think the browser sign in would make any difference with the Market App. If memory serves, with a new phone (or factory reset) you select the gmail (or other google) account to register the phone and enter the password. Then when you launch the market app for the first time, you are asked to agree to the terms of service agreement but not to re-enter the account or password. If you are being asked for the account and password from the market, perhaps you phone isn't registered correctly.

And by the way, the "data enabled" option is turned off, will that make a difference? And please don't forget that my GPRS is already turned off from T-Mobile.

'Data enabled' under mobile networks is only for GPRS data. It would have no effect on WiFi.

Go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Add account -> Google account > and sign in at your Google account.

Harry, you can't access the market through an alternate gmail account. It must be the primary account to which the phone is registered.

Lunatic59: I have reached home and I still cannot connect.

And you mentioned earlier that the phone may be registered wrong, what should I do to check it?

first, have you cleared the data for the market?

Go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications and tap on the all tab. Then scroll down to the market and tap on it. Select clear data and clear cache. Then try and open the market app. You will have to re-accept the TOS agreement when you do this.

If that doesn't connect you to the market, go to menu>settings>accounts and sync and tap the google accounts. Try and remove the accounts. If you can remove it, it's not the primary account. The one you can't remove is the account the phone is registered to. That should be a gmail account.

Shut off your phone and log into that gmail account from a pc and change that password. When you reboot your phone you will be prompted for the new password. If it connects successfully, then try and access the market.

I meant the primary account because the OP did a factory reset.
With my HTC phone, after a factory reset, the phone registering is cleared. I have to go to 'Accounts & sync', "recreate" my (primary) Google account and have to sign in.
And my phone must has a SIM for this first sign in, even when I connected by WiFi :)

EDIT: I have to correct me: The phone doesn't start without SIM, after start, I can set WiFi and then sign in at my Google account. Sorry for this mixing up ;)

I did as you said and I reset the password for my gmail account. However, the phone never "prompted for the new password". I can sign in using the web to my gmail account. And even on the Android Market Web site (through the internet, not the app) it shows my cell phone. And when I try to download something, then it says "will download shortly". And it never even starts to download.

You go to menu>settings>accounts & sync and there is one account listed and it's a Google account, and you logged into that account on a PC and changed the password. Now, when you rebooted the phone, it connects to the internet and sync's to that account and you weren't prompted for a new password?

I did as you said and the same login screen comes up saying to sign up/and sign in for a gmail account. I tried to sign in, but the error said: Cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server.

Then you either are not connected to the internet or it's being blocked.

Do you think that if I bought a Web day pass, then I could at least set up my account through the app, and then it would work with wifi?
