MTP for USB connection?

HMishkoff

Lurker
When I try to connect the Thrive to my XP machine via USB, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" says that it's trying to install software for MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), but it can't find what it's looking for, so the install fails. (Then the AT100 software install also fails, which I assume is a result of the failure of the MTP software install.) From what I've read, I should have an MTP driver already installed if I have Windows Media Player on my PC, which I do. (I even downloaded the most recent version, which didn't help.) Every avenue I follow via Google leads me to a dead end. If I can't connect the Thrive to my PC, I've basically wasted all of my money, so any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

Check Toshibas site for the drivers. BTW, the mapping is actually nice, since the sd card is in a folder in the AT100 root directory. Odd, but nice to access the sd card, while in the tablet.

Couldn't find anything about an MTP driver on Toshiba's site. And I don't think it's really Toshiba's problem anyway, the problem is on the XP side, that's where I need to find an MTP driver. :(

Hello,

I'm new to Android. I bought Ed Burnette's "Hello Android" book and I'm trying learn how to write Android Apps. I bought a Toshiba Thrive because it's one of the few listed as being able to support Accessory Development. In order to debug my code I need to connect the Thrive to my laptop via USB. When I try this, it does one of two things:

Thrive's USB Debug Mode OFF: This works fine, sorta. The Thrive is recognized by the laptop as a generic external drive. I can see the Thrive's directory structure. But I need USB Debug Mode!

Thrive's USB Debug Mode ON: This doesn't work and the symptoms are exactly as you describe. First it fails to install MTP driver and then fails to install AT100 driver.

I really need this to work! So I'll add to the cry for help. Anyone?

Steve

Steve, I finally got it to work, but from a Windows 7 machine, not from an XP machine. Windows 7 has a built-in MTP driver, which you would think would solve the problem entirely, but you'd be wrong. After nearly giving up, I stumbled across this note:

Enable ADB USB Drivers for Nvidia Tegra based Android Tablets

It turned out that the original note did not really have all the info I needed, but the replies helped me figure it out, and you'll see that I added a reply of my own to document my experience in getting it to work.

I'm still frustrated that I have not been able to find an XP solution, please post another response if you have more luck than than I did. Thanks!
