using data quota while on wifi

Hello. I am new to smartphones. Have the optimus with virgin mobile. Installed 3g watchdog since some people on this forum recommended. I am connected to wifi while home, but found while playing with the phone at home trying to figure it out that some data (minimal, but would expect 'none') was being used from the vm allowance. Is there a way to prevent this?

Also, how do you officially 'thank' someone on this forum as I see people do?

If you're on WI-FI, you can also save some battery life by turning the DATA OFF. When it on, it continually searches for a 3G connection.

Go into SETTINGS > > WIRELESS AND NETWORK SETTINGS > > MOBILE DATA, and uncheck the 3G connection.

Do you have the pro or the lite version of watchdog? The pro will let you see which apps are using the data. It's also slightly slow to update if I remember correctly, so the increase in data you're seeing could just be the app updating the totals on it's schedule. Unless you're doing a manual refresh?

Use the bottom right hand button underneath the post you want to thank someone.
