The Photon 4G Pre-Order Info Thread

6 AM Central tomorrow morning.

Good news - as we announced in the press release on the Motorola Photon last week, Premier customers will have the chance to order the Motorola Photon before the general public, beginning tomorrow morning. Look here for the link to the Premier order page, which will be posted by 6 AM central time tomorrow. Just a reminder, though orders are processed with overnight shipping, there is no guarantee the phone will arrive the next day. Delivery time depends on the volume of orders received. Also, the offer is open until supplies last. Thanks, -art

Sprint Community: Premier Customers Can Buy The Motorola...

I love how its "you can pre-order it to get it before anyone else....but depending on time, delivery and order numbers you may not get it early." I mean, then why offer the service if there is no guarentee? Maybe a little thinking outside the box would tell you to start the pre-order 7 days before release. At least then you can hold your promise and make it a true perk to be a Premier member.

So get up early Thursday to order, cross your fingers and you might get your phone Friday. Otherwise, you'll get it on Monday, a day after normal customers can get them in store. Neat.

Yeah exactly. And like Godfather says, at least get the pre-order out like 7 days early. Let me get the phone a full week before it hits stores or something.

I'm going to sit tight on my Wirefly pre-order at 150.00 and just wait to get the phone on Aug 2.

I did confirm with them that they only activate the phone AFTER you receive it. If anyone here read some of my earlier posts, there was some initial confusion about them possibly activating the phone and THEN shipping, which would leave me without a phone for a few days. this is NOT the case even thought thats the language on their website.

150.00 to get the phone on Aug 2 sounds like a hell of a lot better deal to me than 220 (after taxes) to possibly get it on Aug 1 or MAYBE on the 29th if lucky.

I'm in Indiana and the phones I've ordered have always come overnight from the Louisville, KY area so I'm going to take a chance and pre-order on the Premier deal.

You forget about the second contract tied to Wirefly. It's not without its drawback.

Honestly, as I've said before - I don't see why anyone would lack the foresight required to plan for 6 months. I'm 1050% positive that I'm not going to cancel my contract within 2 years, let alone 180 days. not an issue. for me at least.

This is true, I am still debating whether to do it with Wirefly or Sprint Premier. Getting up at my usual time and doing the purchase at 7AM EST (6Am CST) isn't so bad. Do i want to spend more money and do it with Sprint and get it overnight or stay with the savings and do it with Wirefly.
Also does doing it with Sprint allow you to get it billed to your account or does one have to have a credit card in hand. i know with Wirefly credit card is the only option.

Well I still have a few hours to decide.

TS - I don't know about charging to your account - back in the day when I first opened my sprint account (10 years ago) I remember that you could charge purchases to your account so long as you had the sufficient 'spending limit'. I have no idea how it works these days though....

I guess what I am weighing right now, is if the 70.00 savings is worth not having the 'peace of mind' of getting it from Sprint or BB/local retailer etc.

So long as I don't get a lemon phone and have to deal with customer service from a distance, I should be fine.

Think I am going to go for it.

TS - Depends on the savings is worth it for you vs. convenience and getting the phone earlier than the 1st or 2nd (depending on how fast wirefly shipping goes).

TS/mkvoran - I can confirm that the phone purchase can still be charged to your account and I believe there's still a "limit." Only reason I know that is I was on the verge of purchasing an EVO View 4G and they said I could charge it directly to my account if I wanted, but the tablet charges weren't and aren't worth it (I can get a HTC Flyer, pay the extra 29.99 for wireless hotspot on the Photon or even root the phone and get free hotspot, and end up having unlimited data vs. the limited 3G data that Sprint caps on the tablet plans...they really messed up on those tablet plans).

A rep checked for me today and told me I could charge the MP4G to my account. I'll bet there are only
a few hundred to a couple thousand pre-orders and that all our phones are received on Fraday (but could be wishful thinking on my part, I admit...).

If you have issues with a phone from WF, can you get it serviced/returned at Sprint? Or does it have to go through WF's CS?

My past experience with Sprint is that they'd turn me away until after my return period expired with the 3rd party retailer. Once that expired, Sprint would take over.

Called Best Buy right now to see if they had any updates in their system regarding the Photon 4G. According to the mobile rep I spoke with, he said to check tomorrow because Thursdays are usually when they get shipment of new phone inventory and they should have a good idea by then, if they'll have it available for the release date on Sunday! It's encouraging news, but I'm not holding my breathe that they'll end up having it available by then.

With Sprint changing the pre-order time to 1pm central now, I'm wondering if that will reduce the chances of getting it delivered to us on Friday?

That is cutting it too close. I'm gonna go to store on Sunday if that is the case. No point on ordering Thursday and receiving it next Monday.

Because of the wishy-washy nature of Best Buy, if they don't know for sure that the phone will be in stock (on Sunday) by tomorrow night, I'll be ordering through the premiere order link.

With the week I'm having, I need this phone to cheer me up...LOL.

Yeah, I just read that. That's nuts... I'll bet more than a few choose not to pre-order if knowing that. Having my doubts... might wait until Sunday, as well.

The change to 1pm sucks. I might have to just call my local stores to see if any of them are selling early for Premier customers.

Otherwise, Sunday it is I guess. Disappointing.

The part that drives me nuts about that Radio Shack offer is that I can choose overnight delivery but it does state that the item will shipped on the release date which is July 31st. So why bother.
Last year I pre paid the $50 towards the EVO 4G and was able to pick up the device at the Radio Shack store.
