Please help, I recently dropped my phone in water for a second or two. Once I had dried the phone out, it turned on and seemed to be working ok. However after a little time, the screen came unresponsive to drag control so I could not unlock. After loads of times trying I got the screen active and the phone works in every way (internet, video, fb, twitter all work) but then the touch screen stops working. Any ideas anyone pls!!!!!

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Normally when you drop a phone in water it's best to immediately remove the battery and place both the phone and battery in a bowl full of uncooked rice for a few days. The rice should wick away any residual moisture left in the phone and battery.

At this point it's possible that some remaining moisture may have caused an issue with the internal components of your phone. If you have insurance on the phone you may need to use it. If you don't then, sadly, you may need to start thinking about purchasing a new phone because most wireless carriers will not warranty water damage.

Moving your thread to the HTC Desire HD support forum for further assistance...

Martimus was spot on, the best remedy is both battery and phone in to a bowl of rice straight away and left there for a couple of days.

Sometimes you might be lucky enough that the water damage indicators are intact. There should be a sticker which says "VOID" on it towards the bottom of the battery compartment, is that any colour other than black and white?

Your device wasn't completely dry and that's a common mistake.

As soon as your device contacts water remove the battery and all cards. Do not insert them again until the device is fully dry. At typical ambient temperature and average humidity it's going to take several days for your device to fully dry. Unless you've completely disassembled your device you can't verify visually that you've properly dried off everything.

Powering up a device that is still wet can cause more damage. You might want to follow the suggestions posted in this thread and see if your device will recover. Your odds of recovery decrease as you continue to power a device that is not fully dry.

The rice is a very slow and inconsistent way to remove the water ...

place the phone with (all compartment covers off etc) propped up in front of a hairdryer on "warm" for an hour or so .. at least a foot away from the airflow so you are more drying the air around the phone than direct on the phone itself. Then put it in the airing cupboard (if you have one), still with all parts open where possible where the air is kept dryer than ambient air by the heat of the immersion/hot water tank. It needs to stay in there for a couple of days to ensure all parts are dry. Then and only then try turning it on.

This method has successfully restored 3 android phones that I know of.

A point to note that may or may not be helpful to others who are in a similar situation.

I have a desire HD and got it wet. I dried it out in the rice and it still did not work. No LED when charging. Nothing when trying a full reboot with volume button down. I was gutted as obviously HTC wouldn't repair it and i didn't have insurance. I pondered it for a few weeks, trying it again and again but no luck.

Just on the off chance, I tried a freinds battery and to my suprise, it turned on. I shut the phone down, put in my old battery and plugged in the charger got a flashing orange LED, this turned to full orange after a few minutes. I then turned the phone on, let it charge fully and it's all working perfectly now. :):):)

Hope you are as lucky as I was.
