Has anybody tried the USB On-The-Go feature on Galaxy S II ? I hope this feature is present in all versions of the phone (i.e. released in all countries)... How does one go about using this feature?
Thanks in advance...
From what I understand, this future is released in all versions of the phone except the cable itself is not included upon purchasing the phone. To use this future you have to have a separate USB OTG cable (either third party or Samsung) that you can purchase on areas like eBay. You plug it into the micro usb port on the phone and connect the other end to another USB device for example a flash drive and the phone will pick up the USB flash drive and you will be able to browse/copy/paste etc.
Here is a youtube video about USB OTG

This one has been confirmed to work on XDA for the SGS II (can't find the original thread, but there is even a video showing the cable working with the SGS II)

Haven't ordered one myself yet, but will be in the future. Too useful not to have.
Given the utility of this thing, I actually want to order one right away, but given some conflicting viewpoints, I guess I will have to actually see the cable in a store and buy it from there...
There really isn't any confusion, or at least there shouldn't be.
They are easy enough to find on eBay. Many specifically advertise their S2 compatibility such as this oneMicro USB Host Mode OTG Cable for Samsung Galaxy S2/SII | eBay.![]()
Great... so all I need is a micro-B OTG cable specifically...
And now I have another question (pardon my naivete here, but just thinking of alternatives..) -- Can I not use a female-female USB converter (Amazon.com: USB Gender Changer, A Female To Female: Electronics ) and attach it to the USB end of the micro USB cable provided with the phone, and then plug the USB pen drive into the other side of the coverter? The arrangement turns out to be the same as with using an OTG cable...![]()
I haven't tried it but no, I don't believe that this will work. On an OTG cable two of the pins are shorted so that the phone knows to act as the host.
