Root Please help me make a backup of my rom (rom manager not working)

Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate running Froyo. I rooted the phone this morning using superoneclick. I'm trying to make a rom backup and having no success. I have rom manager installed with superuser rights. I have my galaxy s captivate selected after I clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery. When I select "Backup current rom" the phone reboots into the regular recovery menu. I've been trying to figure out how to make this work for several hours and have given up. Is there an alternate app I can use? I want to try Cyanogen7 but want a backup rom first. What would you folks suggest?

Thanks

Think I found the problem.

This is because you have the 3e version of stock recovery installed which does not allow the installation of zip files without signature verification and the ClockworkMod Recovery’s update.zip file installed by ROM Manager can not be signature-verified. The solution is to revert to the 2e recovery. This can be done by flashing a custom rooted kernel.

I'm running froyo 2.2 and rooted with Super-one-click and am having the same problem (can't get cwm to back up my rom). What did you wind up doing (step-by-step, if you can). you mentioned a rooted kernel? Which one? and how did you do it.

Thanks
