Ive been having a few issues with my S7, and im wanting to try CM7. By following instructions, it says i need to start off with a rooted version of 2.1/2.2 This is 2.3. Now, i see it says to start off in CWM, and flash the rom. Can i use this current version of CWM with my current kernel, and flash CM7 flawlessly?
I see they are using ROMManager, and ive heard that that could cause some issues if you have a current flashed version of another modded os.

Could anyone shed some light on this?

no with cm7 and miui go back stock first, you dont need to use rom manager its easier with the cwm method anyway. but do a complete wipe from 2.1, and i wouldnt recommend restoring even just the apps once youve installed cm7, i did and half of the apps force closed. and also cm7 uses its own kernels, they are not compatible with any other roms except miui

I guess im mostly confused on how to go back to stock then. The rest i can accomplish myself by following the instructions on XDA. I should tell you in advance, my phone came with 2.2, it has never seen 2.1.

There are also some odin oneclick exe's out there that you could use to get back to 2.1. Once there you can update using the official kies mini to 2.2 and then you would need to root the unit again to proceed.

I have used the above CM7 Update Guide to update to CM7 so I know it will work if you follow the steps. Let me know if you have trouble :).

Once you go back to stock 2.1, you can root it and proceed to 2.3 from there. There is no need to update with kies and reroot. I went from stock 2.1, rooted it, straight to stock 2.3 and then to MVI and still had root at the end of it.

If you still need a step by step tutorial, here you go.
