Root trying to learn a bit about kernels..

So I have pretty much caught on with most of the things I have learned about rooting thus far, but kernels are something I have no real knowledge about..I know some ROM's allow you to change the kernel your using, and some don't...but as far as where to find different kernels, or descriptions on which kernels do what, I don't know what I'm looking for...I just flashed LGS 1.6, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what kernel that comes with stock, if I should flash a custom one, and if so what kernel is a good one to get?

This Rom comes with a ziggy kernel. I don't know that much about his kernels.
All roms allow you to change kernels. Just make sure that if you are on a sense based Rom (such as this one) you use a sense built kernel. If using an aosp Rom use an aosp kernel.

is the kernel decent? or should I change it to one of the IMO kernels..I see a lot of positive stuff about those, but i dont know where to go to learn about this stuff, so I am unsure which one to try

I like the kernel so far.i may try swapping it out tomorrow. Imo kernels are my usual preference.

For this Rom use his latest lean sense kernel. Just make sure you read up on using speed tweak.

I have used speedtweak and terminal, so I am familar with that...i believe that's how DasBAMF was overclocked, I don't remember which ROM i was on where I needed to do that...but I have used it a couple times..

Yea they use imo kernels as well. Make a backup of this Rom and then flash imo's. If you like ziggy's better flash your backup.

I am going to use this all day tomorrow, check out the battery life, and possibly flash imos tomorrow...i'll let you know...I'm hunting for a wireless hotspot/tether option right now :(

I had to use version 2.0.8 nothing newer would work for me :(
