Root Help rooting Droid Incredible, please

Kapuno

Lurker
I have a Droid Incredible (the first one) and have had it a little over a year. I want to root it using unrevoked3 and use cyanogenmod7, but I have no idea what to do after rooting. I'm confident that I can root with no problem, it's just AFTER the rooting I have no idea what to do. Does anyone know what I need to do?

Here is the guide I previously posted here. Updated, numbered and organized.

Thank you.

Wow, that was just about everything I wanted to know and I didn't have to ask! Thank you very much!

I've rooted my OG Droid and my Droid Charge and I'm hoping that putting CM7 on my wife's Dinc will solve her dropped call problems. Either way, it'll be faster!

Oh, also, to the O.P. after rooting, and flashing a custom rom, you can do ANYTHING. I like to download a WIFI Tether app like Barnicle or maybe FaceNiff to mess with my friends and post on their Facebook. The possibilities are almost endless.

Anytime friend.

jmartino, thank you SO MUCH for explaining all that for me! I'm a newb to the forum, so it took me a while to figure out how to get back to this particular thread. I hope I can successfully flash my phone on my own, it sounds a little more complicated than I anticipated, but I'm gonna try it anyways. I'll let you know how it turns out. Again, thanks so much for the help.

See first of my posts in this thread for proper explanation. Thanks for pointing this out.

EDIT: I update the guide in my original post. You now do not need to determine screen type. See the link in the 2nd post of this thread.

I am having problems with Unrevoked. I have the Incredible with froyo. My problems is when it installs Unrevoked then reboots into hboot. After that it reboots again. When it does Unrevoked says "error with communication with phone try again".

Not sure what to do now? I tried several times including rebooting computer and phone.

sounds like the drivers weren't installed properly.

you need to follow these directions exactly:

http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install

also double check that usb debugging is on.

I followed those with no problems. USB debugging is on. The Unrevoked program finds the incredible and starts the task just fine. Its after the 2nd reboot that the problem arises.

so you booted into hboot installed the drivers, then booted into the phone and installed the drivers again? (just double checking because most people only install them when booted into the OS and think they are fine).

next step would to be, to try another USB cable or SD card, then try another USB port or another computer (Mac or Linux if available)

Sorry for the confusion, After successfully installing the drivers, i started the phone normally. Connected it to the computer with Unreoved3 running. Unreoved3 saw the phone and started the process. It installed the program (i forgot what it said now) then Unreoved3 restarted the phone. The phone booted into hBoot. After doing what ever Unreoved3 wanted to do in hBoot Unreoved3 restarted the phone once again. The phone starts normally. In the middle of that start up Unreoved3 see's the phone briefly before popping up with an error message stating the communication with the phone has a problem, please try again.

I tried 2 diff sd cards and 2 diff computers. I also used 2 diff cables. Its nice having a wife with the same phone as me for spare stuff :)
