[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

How to turn on the echo cancellation in GrooVe IP?
Second, the problem is also found from my friends too. They all hear their voice echo in their phone. Thanks,

When the app is open click the menu button. Then settings->Audio/Echo Settings->Echo Cancellation. Turn on Echo Cancellation and make sure Post Processing is also enabled. And set the Echo Tail setting to "auto detect"

I updated the new version today.

Im getting a new problem with the new version. I dont get incoming calls unless i select wifi perm option. Once i selected wifi per option, the battery drains fast. My device Galaxy S 4G.

Didnt have the problem with the previous version.

Previous version had that lock on by default. New version split it into an option so people who didn't need it didn't have to enable it.

If you set your device so WiFi never sleeps then you likely won't need the lock.

it is never sleep selected on the device. But i miss incoming calls unless i select wifi perf.

Do you know any common issue regarding to galaxy s series?

I just did the setup and the echo is still exist in the other side of phone when talking to the phone. The Galaxy side (GrooVe IP) doesn't have echo.

Does the echo tail get reported when you end the call or does it say not able to detect echo tail? Did setting it improve things at all? You can also try the synchronize voice option under troubleshooting, it can improve the echo canceler performance.

Lowering the mic gain and speaker volume should also help.

I got GrooVe IP yesterday for my Optimus V. I want to like it but I'm frustrated. There are two issues. On 3G I can hear callers but they often hear garbled voice from me. Echo cancellation and gain adjustment helped reduce echo, but the troubleshooting hacks did not seem to make a consistent improvement. Wifi seems to work OK. One of your FAQ tips said it may just be the 3G network quality in this case. Can you suggest anything else?
The second problem is no incoming calls. I went to Google Voice to be sure Voice is forwarded to Chat and I can't find the Chat forwarding options. Also, I can't be sure what my Google Voice# is -- (there's a 518 area code listed top right by the gear icon and there's a different one (760 area code) on recipient's caller ID. Neither number works. Help...
Thanks

The Optimus V shouldn't require any of the troubleshooting options. The 3G quality (especially if the Wifi works) is likely the network.

For the second issue. The 760 number is the one Google uses if you haven't completed signing up for your Google Voice number. Have you gone through all the steps and had Google call you and enter the verification code? Once you do all that the forward to google chat option should appear.

If it doesn't then use the gmail calling feature from a PC. Log in to gmail on a pc using a web browser, then click "Call phone". It'll be under Chat. Make a call from that and it should add the option to forward to google chat.

Thanks.

Disappointed to hear that the 3G is so spotty.

As to the incoming calls, I thought I had been through the setup fully, but I did not have Google call me with a verification code. I did however try to make a Chat call but the dialer did not place the call. I'll try the set up again and try to complete it. Thanks again.

Ya on 3G, call quality will depend on the quality and speed of your connection. Also, the app requires 80kb/s upload and download speed to have clear voice.

Thanks snrb,
Got both ends working now. I had been trying to access Google voice/chat on my mac (running tiger) and that didn't help. When I switched to my PC I had to download and install the voice plug in. Eventually I made a call and got the Chat forward options and set it up.
I'm very impressed with GrooVe IP and your customer service. Though I wish the call quality on 3G was more dependable.

Does a Virgin Mobile user qualify as Sprint for the purposes of using Google Voice?

Glad it's working now for you. Sorry, not sure about the VM Sprint question.

Sorry, no. The Google Voice Phone-Setup-Page will tell you this if you try:

"Unfortunately, Google Voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact Sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled."

Yeah. It says "Sprint Phone" even though it's a Virgin phone, because Virgin uses the Sprint network.

Do you mean to use the volume rockers to lower when we are IN-CALL?

Applying the adjustment you stated prior helped eliminated the receiver's echo on their side.
However, it seems they care hear a lot more background noise on my GrooveIP side.

Will lowering the speaker volume remedy this?

VM Optimus V w/ Android 2.2.

I have the latest release I think* v 1.2.1
Going to My Market Account at the Android Market, clicking on the app icon seems to initiate any waiting update.

*Today I see all download history (along with some apps I know I have) have been erased and is showing only the original GVIP download (purchase) date.
Maybe an Android Market glitch as it previously correctly displayed all other download details.

Anyway, the following problems persist (connected via Wifi)
1. GVIP logs itself out consistently.
2. Echo problem is still present.
3. Phone often does not ring.

Settings:
Set to forward to Google Chat only.
Allow 3/4G calling: Checked
Dialer prefs: Ask every call
Accept calls on answer: Unchecked
Echo cancellation: On
Echo Tail: Auto detect
Microphone gain: - 4
Speaker Vol: 0
Mic buffer: Medium
Synchronize voice: On
Enable call log: Checked
Keep screen on: Checked
Audio processing ? Don't know what this is.
High perf Wifi lock: N/A (Android 2.3 and above only)

No other troubleshooting or misc settings selected.
Thanks....

UPDATE: Echo tail detected on last 2 calls, reported as 220 and 180.

Are you using the app on WiFi? Make sure that the WiFi is staying connected, if you open the phone settings you should be able to see if the WiFi is switching between connected, connecting, or obtaining ip address. Some people with the Optimus V have said an app called Advanced WiFi Lock has helped with WiFi problems.

Has anyone had any problems with the bluetooth not working. I have a Droid X sync'd to my Jetta and it works fine for native calls, but when I use Groove IP it doesn't work at all. Has anyone else experienced bluetooth issues? This is a great app and I want to use it, but here in California they are super strict about driving and talking on the phone.

Yes using Wifi at home.
The connection is very stable, (my laptop always remains connected)
just GVIP goes in and out.
For instance, when I pick up the phone and activate the screen, the icon is sometimes (not always) red.....it changes to green in short order.

Sometimes it will ring half a ring tone then straight to voice mail.
Other times it will ring normally.

On the echo, do my settings look ok?
You said previously that it's the voice coming from the speaker being picked up by the mike, but the speaker is turned off.

What do the echo tail numbers (220 + 180) at the end of a call, indicate?
Great app, thanks for any further info.

Settings look ok. The echo tail numbers indicate at what interval the auto detect detected echo. So if you don't like hearing the beep when calls connect you can switch the tail setting to a manual range that covers the tail sizes your phone normally gets.

WiFi on your phone is different than the laptop. The phone has power saving modes that can either put WiFi to sleep or put it into a power saving mode. GrooVe IP will be disconnected if your WiFi is put to sleep. The app others with the Optimus V recommended was called Advanced WiFi Lock. It will try and prevent your WiFi from disconnecting.

Yes, I am encountering the same problem, unfortunately. I can't make calls or receive calls through my Motorola BT system in my car. SNRB told me that it isn't compatible with all bluetooth devices.

I have an Optimus V. For some calls that I receive the phone rings but there is no screen to answer the call. I have google voice to forward to chat and not the phone.

Something may be closing the GrooVe IP incoming call screen. You can get the screen back by opening the app via the notification icon (green GV). You should then be able to answer the call

We are looking into BT issues still to see if there is anything we can do differently. Not really sure why, but it seems the api's available don't work properly with all BT headsets

Love the app so far. I seldom get calls on 3G, but a customer called me at work the other day and call quality was amazingly good (not always the case on 3G, VM network!). Bravo!

My only "request" is to add a "Speakerphone" switch on your dialer. Since my "CarMode" app doesn't seem to function with GIP, be nice to have a way to send all calls to speaker (before they happen).

Will take a look and see what we can do about adding an option to have speakerphone on by default
