[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Thanks snrb for the trial for a week for those of us who got it from amazon. Also if you are aware when Amazon does update to the new version can you update your first post which store is at what version this way we don't d/l an old version from Amazon.

Our Facebook page has a version for people who ordered from Amazon. Should hold them over until Amazon updates.

that sucks, wish i had read this sooner, i saw this thread earlier today explaining that 1.2.2 fixed the problem, and went and erased it from my phone then bought it again from google market for another $5. Screw amazon, they should refund my $5.

Anyone who gets update from Amazon I checked this morning said update available so I thought it may be it and installed it and it was the old version so I had to reinstall the temp version from FB. So if someone actually knows Amazon has 1.2.2 please post on here so we don;t waist our time installing the old version.

Thanks

Easiest way to get notified is follow our facebook page. I always post on there when Amazon is updated.

I do not think this is possible, but I want to make sure I did not miss anything.

I only use GVIP on WIFI because my data plan is pay-as-you-go and expensive. So, I would like to have my google voice number first ring GVIP and then after 4 or 5 rings I would like it to start ringing my mobile number which is the phone that is running GVIP. That way I can use GVIP when I am on WIFI so as not to use minutes but still get calls when I am not connected to WIFI.

Is this possible?

What you could do is forward calls to both your mobile number and to google chat in your google voice account. When you get an incoming call GrooVe IP and your regular phone will ring, GrooVe IP should show up on top if you are on WiFi. If you wanted to answer from your native phone, you could press the home button to get back to the native incoming call screen.

And now Google undid the change they made on Friday. So 1.2.2 will no longer work but earlier versions work. Will be putting out a 1.2.3 that supports either way.

Ok version 1.2.3 has been posted to the android market. Supports both old and new namespaces so outgoing calls should work...again. Amazon still has 1.2.1 which should also be able to make calls.

Thanks, I will give that a try. I did not try it because the instructions said to make sure that Google Voice was not forwarded to the mobile phone.

Is it possible to leave GrooVe IP logged in so I can make calls but when I receive calls they come over 3G/4G on the phone but not via the app? Right now with the app logged in it also receives through it without asking me.

When receiving calls through GrooVe IP the quality is horrible. Making calls is hit or miss. Sometimes there is delay and static and sometimes not. I am on a Motorola Atrix, I have FIOS internet and i'm close to the router so my wifi signal is strong.

If I turn on the echo features the person on the other end gets static from me to various degrees. But most, if not all, of the echo is gone.

On the Atrix make sure you're using Gingerbread and that Audio Processing is enabled. Otherwise incoming calls will sound really really bad (robotic voice, huge delay).

Post Processing in the GrooVe IP app? With that on the static others here from me is pretty bad.

In the GrooVe IP settings under troubleshooting there's an Audio Processing checkbox. Believe the Atrix needs that checked.

Yes, it's called post processing. That's resulting in static. The echo is gone but I get static in it's place.

Post processing is in the Audio/Echo settings. Audio Processing is under troubleshooting. They do two different things.

Ok, found it, thanks. However it didn't solve the issue. There is still a delay so I changed mic buffering as it said. It helped slightly. There is static from me to the other person when I talk loud so I reduced microphone gain but the issue persists. I have to be sure to talk a bit lower then it's ok.
There is still some slight echo but i'm told it's not too bad. I have post processing on as well for that.

Also, the screen doesn't turn off when i'm talking on grooVe IP like it does with the normal phone. The setting that would keep the screen up is disabled but the issue still exists.

Do you think it would improve quality if I got a Wireless N router for faster speeds? My router I have now only does b/g.

I have a suggestion. Is it possible that when someone calls me the gmail phone will ring as well as my groove ip? Sometimes if I'm on my laptop, I may prefer to receive the call from my laptop.
I remembered in earlier versions, gmail will take over if we sign in the google chat (gmail rings instead of my groove ip). But in recent versions, the groove ip takes over no matter my gmail signs in or not. Actually, will it be better to create a switch (or option) to decide whether we will use gmail or groove ip to receive calls.
Thank you very much! Great app so far!

Hi,
The app really rocks using it on my Toshiba Thrive 16gb. I have found an unfortunate glitch though. When I call out using a contact instead of using the dialpad, the tab starts cycling from the contact screen to turning off the screen, to the Groove IP screen and back. The call isn't dropped although call quality is drastically reduced during the cycling. Calling using the dialpad is fantastic.

I have to use Google Talk, as Voice is not available for this tablet. Groove IP logs on to Voice, of course, and my contacts see my Google Voice number on their caller id.

I have Groove on my old HTC HD2 running Gingerbread too. Such a great app I can't tell you.

So, any ideas about the thrive problem?

Issue is that Google Voice will only forward the call to one sign in to Google Talk. In earlier versions GrooVe IP signed in at a lower priority so calls were always going to gmail. Newer versions GrooVe IP has a higher priority so calls should come to the app. I think it would be difficult to add a toggle, plus you'd have to restart the app anytime you changed the toggle. Will look into it.

I love this app, but lately I've noticed I keep missing calls because by the time my ringtone starts going off, the person calling in is already being sent to voice mail. I can have my phone in my hand, hear the first buzz, and look down in time to see the missed call indicator. This happens on a strong Wifi signal, not sure if it happens on 3G. Are there settings I missed (or messed up) or is this because I use custom ringtones? Running on Optimus V, stock rooted.
