Correct.

Depending on exactly how you rooted, and if your running a rom, either you shouldn't get the OTA at all or it should fail to install (most root methods block updates). But to be 100% safe, reject the update.

Thank you! I'm so impatient. I would probably have just crossed my fingers and given it a shot :o

eeeeGADS where is it?!

Anyone else unrooted, then rooted again because they couldn't STAND the unroot, damn near bricked their phone trying roms, and finally unrooted again just to get the dinc working?

Nah? Just me? Okay.

Hope it shows up today our early tomorrow for me. Heading out of town tomorrow night for some Nascar racing and won't have wifi till Sunday evening.

it'd be nice to get the gingerbread update already. that way id have something new and exciting to hold me off till i get the bionic.

The bionic? What's that...a surgically implanted Inc?

I'm rooted and totally afraid to unroot since the process seems WAY more complicated in reverse.

How soon after the OTA 2.3.4 update do we think a painless 1-click root will be developed (a la unrevoked3). I'm not incredibly tech savy and rooting ended up being so easy for me.

Probably not too long but it's just so much easier to wait for the ROM. Then they take all the crap out and give you much cooler stuff to use.

Agreed, not long at all. Probably only a week or 2 AFTER somebody releases a stock/rooted rom.

To be absolutely clear, if you're a rooted and waiting for the update STAY ROOTED and INSTALL THE UPDATE as a ROM. It will be faster, safer, easier, and you have the benefits of being able to backup your data.
If you aren't rooted, and want to be rooted after the update ROOT NOW and install the update as a rom.

So the general consensus is to just remain rooted on 2.2 and just flash the 2.3.4 that a developer puts out? And it will be just as good even better than the OTAs going out over the next couple days?

Alright, I guess that's what I'll do. From what I've gathered, flashing custom roms involves just throwing a zip into the root of your SD card then executing it in HBOOT - Yes/No?

Uh oh, I think I'm guilty of going off topic....

Don't worry - a mod will move us shortly enough. :)

But yes, that's the basic idea. I flashed a rom at work today - so easy to do!
And yes, the roms that come out are generally better - if only for the fact that they've written them to include as much of what the general public wants/needs as they can and have gotten rid of the bloat that your carrier deems necessary.
That's my take on it though - others I'm sure will say the OTA is better.

Somebody will release the OTA AS a rom. It will be completely identical +/- a couple of root tools.

Unrooting is easy peasy, for real: Unroot Doid Incredible. | doug piston
(2 downloads, 2 reboots basically)

BUT I'm sorry I did it because unrooted sucks. Srsly; just wait (stay rooted). I ended up rooting again, and Titanium Backup and clockwork had my back — all was well. But a bug crawled up my backend and I decided I just *had* to see the OTA.

Stay rooted! Just don't let the OTA update you.
