Root Gingerbreak and Verizon Xplay

has any 1 used gingerbreak with the verizon version? ive givin it a try and it just doesnt seem to work. i may be doing something wrong but im also uncertain if its the vz version of this phone is incapable of doing it.

i want to be able to root my device without unlocking the bootloader to hopefully be able to keep my warrenty while still gaining root access!

i forgot to mention i do have gingerbread 2.3.2 not the update

AFAIK the VZW version is not rootable at this time.

Even temporary root access would be great. I would love to get rid of all the garbage they packed into this phone...

You could unlock the bootloader, root, remove the bloat and then relock the bootloader via tutorials on XDA. Not sure if there is a way to keep the removed apps atmosphere and get rid of root, however.

I'll wait for something that doesn't require mandatory modification of the bootloader. When I rooted my Ally, it installed the custom recovery, and when I unrooted, it was not set back to factory recovery (probably my fault). When I upgraded to my Xperia Play, I gave my Ally to my son, but I could not do a factory reset to remove my Gmail account. Trying to factory reset just left me stuck at a blue screen with some text about fastboot. It was still under warranty, so I had Verizon replace it.

They specifically asked me if I had rooted it. I had to act dumb :

I had the Ally too! And I also will wait for something not so risky, hopefully one click root

You just needed to reinstall the stock recovery on the Ally. It manual process. I have one I'm goofing with custom ROMS on, even though I've moved on to other phones.

You can root your device without unlocking the bootloader. espescialy since the Verizon version of the plays bootloader isnt unlockable right now anyway. To root, just use the SuperOne Click method. I believe there is a thread here on it, if not just google SuperOne Click, i know there is a thread on XDA-Developer Forums. Thats where i got mine from and I rooted my Play using it.
