Help auto brightness - keeps turning itself off - ne1 else??

SDscorch

i swear i've had to dig back into the settings at least three times now and REclick the "automatic brightness" box

anyone else seeing this??

am i going crazy here?!?

I'll test it on mine. Don't usually use auto brightness so I'll have to test for a hour or too to get a idea for sure. How long did it usually take to reset for you? Does it only reset if you reboot the phone?

i noticed it happened after i used the camera

that was earlier today

it just happened just again just now - don't know what prompted it

i'll have to pay closer attention - see if i can notice a trend...

oh.. didn't have to do with resetting the phone

its happened a few times today...

once in the very first thing in the morning before i got out of bed (hurt my eyes!)

then this afternoon when i was messing around with the camera

and then once i think after playing with the weather animations (notice how you get an animation after you tap the weather icon in the middle of the flip-clock on the home screen - it starts you out with a few cities, i changed those to places where i have friends living --- but that changed the screen to 100% max and turned auto-brightness off

then just now - i was just updating my apps from the market and i noticed it was maxed out

so i said that's it - and posted it up here

Wow that's pretty crazy. I keep the brightness pretty low and never on auto. it hasn't reset itself that way. I'm trying with auto brightness now, to see if I can reproduce it on my phone...I'll let you know what I find.

Well after playing around with it I was only able to make it rest itself after using the camera, and only if I adjusting settings in camera. Can anyone else confirm? For me, I'll just continue to use the manual settings ;)

Yeah , after using the camera the brightness switch to 100%. There is some widget allows you to one clip set the brightness.

thought i was going crazy 'til i saw this thread. same problem here. i haven't yet figured out the combination of things that causes it to happen. I think the camera may be related, but when I try to make it happen it doesn't. The camera does seem to raise the screen brightness while you take the picture, so I'm thinking there's maybe that in combination with something else causes it not to set the brightness back.

As soon as I click Enable Power Efficiency, it also resets the screen to full brightness. Which seems COMPLETELY counter productive. :P

Havent played around too much with it, but i have noticed that my Sensation (T-Mobile US version) has three different menu areas to change the timeout and screen brightness settings. the normal way, the power saver options, and in a T-Mobile app called "My Device". I have experienced similar issues as what everyone is saying, but i also have it with changing the brightness levels, not just the automatic brightness setting, as well as with the screen timeout setting changing itself back when i change it. I feel that maybe the many different ways of changing these settings has caused some overlap between the options that may override each other in certain situations.

i dont have the auto-brightness checked and keep it kinda dim (like less than half). sometimes it will go 100% bright on its own. today i got off a call and it went bright. i'll pay attention to a trend

Mines randomly does it but maybe only once a week or so. Usually I'll just lock the phone and unlock it to fix it. It goes from bright to dark and stays there.

ok, i noticed this evening it does it after using the camera. at sunset I try to capture a nice pic, and noticed that afterwards it went 100% bright. if i open the camera from the lock screen it always does it. from the app drawer it's hit or miss, but the brightness always happens after the camera.

A Google search for "the camera keeps turning the brightness all the way up" landed me here. This problem affects the brightness whether it is set to automatic or manual. There's no escape from the problem. I have noticed that the camera turns the brightness up all the way (very inconvenient in a darkened room, for example). Sometimes it will restore the brightness when you're done, but there's just too many ways to exit the app, and the camera is probably violating some rules laid down by Android about overriding the system settings.

The fact that it's an interaction between one or more apps makes it hard to find unless someone is actually paying attention to what they are doing. So I can only hope someone at T Mobile is awake enough to see it and realize what's causing it. I don't know of any way to file a bug report or drop hints to the developers. My G1 had a similar bug with the brightness control and the light under the keyboard. Ran the battery down several times before I figured it out. And they never did fix it. So all I can do is lurk on the forums and help complain :p
