Help Samsung galaxy 2 won't be turned off

When I turn off my phone, it take i couple of seconds and i turn itself back on..
Anyone know why? Is there anything I can do about it?

What version of the firmware are you on? The reason I ask is that the firmware that I had that came with the phone used to "seem" to do this. Are you sure you are not touching anything on the phone during the shutdown?
Ie. press and hold the power button, select power off, then click ok
Now dont touch anything at all on the phone until the phone vibrates.

Previously (I think it was on KE2) I'm sure it would cancel the shutdown if something was pressed.
It now seems not to do this since I upgraded to PDA:KG3 / PHONE:KG2 / CSC:KG3 (ORA)

I have Android 2.3.3..
Just tried to turn it off, and i did not touch anything, but it still turned itself on.
 
How far into the shutdown does it get?
ie. press+hold power, do you get the list of options?
if so, after selecting power off, do you get the confirmation prompt ok/cancel
if so, does the shutdown graphic kick in (i'm on orange, so an orange video gets shown.

You may have to pull the battery out. This can cure lots of strange behaviour in most phones.
 
I've tried both, when I get the list of options i choose turn off device, and then it comes another screen "this will shut down your phone" and I press yes.. and the shut down video appears. and i it turns off but seconds later the start screen shows.

I've also tried to just hold the button on the side til the phone shuts down, same thing happen.l
 
Did you try pulling the battery out?
If so, did it solve it when you tried shutting it down subsequently?
 
Strange as your SG2 should NOT start up when you insert the battery. I am thinking you have a hardware problem.

Have you installed any 3rd party software?

I do have exectly the same problem. I'm about to go to the shop where I bought my phone, maybe they can help me. I guess it has something to do with the latest software (called a batterybug on the internet)...
If I get to know anything I will let you know...
And it's not the power button because it would ALSO shut down by itself and turn on by itself...
 
I experienced the same problem, after installing Modern Combat 2 which I had downloaded earlier today from Gameloft. On balance, I felt that writing off

I had this problem too. I also had the MTP application cranking up all the time and scanning media. I went to Settings/Applications/Development/ and ticked USB debugging. This solved the problem and the MTP application starting all the time. Good luck.

I also have the same problem, and also my micro usb is not working properly. It is not recognizing either the AC Charger or the usb cable, if connected to the computer.

Any thoughts?

Clean the USB socket out with something like a dry toothbrush. Dust & debris can get in there and short out some of the connections, confusing the phone.
 
just been googling this problem and found this thread.I too had this issue except mine would stay off once battery removed and put back in. I had had my phone less than 28 days so I got it replaced and after about a week my new replacement is doing it again argghh!

I'm thinking it would be really bad luck to have issues with 2 phones so im thinking must be something I am doing.interesting to read a game loft game causing issues as I downloaded super knockout recently which is around time issues started.

Thinking I'll try remove that before sending this one back!
 
I'm with Nelviticus on this one if its not software causing a reset instead of power off. Give the usb port a clean. If there's around 255k across pins 4 and 5 of the USB port it will cause the phone to switch on.
 
Yup mine was doing the same thing and would randomly go into driving mode, gave the usb port a clean with a tiny brush and seems to have fix it, thanks for the advice.
 
i got this problem too..
but i've followed all of the tips...
but it's still turn on after shutdown...
i'm using hairdryer,toothbrush to clean my usb socket and its work..
but a couple of minute, it was suddenly turn on by it self...
whats wrong...
help me please...
it's really annoying...
is it because the usb socket get wet...?
but i've dryed it with hairdryer...
 
Same problem here (Samsung Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile in the UK).

My phone will not switch off, in spite of going through its full shutdown sequence (including the final vibrate). When it finishes shutdown, it springs back to life with the boot screen.

I tried enabling USB debugging (see earlier message) but this made no difference.

I also did a factory reset (minus the SD-card wipe) and this too made no difference.

It is clearly a hardware fault. Several people on this thread have pointed to a short circuit in the USB port, which may, or may not, be the problem.

Weirdly, the phone *will* switch off when it is connected to a power supply (or USB). But as soon as you disconnect it, it boots up (without touching anything). This questions the USB short cicruit theory, and points to a more fundamental hardware fault in the circuitry.

My phone is new (two weeks) so I plan to get a replacement and hope that it doesn't happen again.

UPDATE: I took the phone back to a T-Mobile shop only to be told there is only a seven day exchange policy and that the phone will have to be sent away for repair. As you can imagine, I am not pleased about the loss of the phone for a period of time or the idea of my phone being repaired at such an early stage or, worse, me being sent an older exchange model.
 
I think I now know what the problem is. The micro USB port on the phone has no cover and is exposed. It seems to be prone to getting a little moist, and this problem arises when that happens. I suspect that brushing the connection or blowing air is simply drying out the connection.

My phone now switches off OK. The problem arose after I used it at swimming. The phone was never near water but the air is moist at an indoor swimming pool. It has now dried out and it now turns off OK.

So, my advice for anyone with this problem is to coonnect a USB cable to it to switch it off, which will work for as long as it takes to dry out the phone.

This is a hardware problem that Samsung needs to address. I've used many phones at the swimming and never had this problem.
