So now you're rooted, now what?

So in the end i went with lightning rom. the no wipe thing is awesome IMO. plus the blue hue looks nice.

so a few questions.

lightning vs villain, which is better?

how do i back up everything now that i can't use kies? or can i? i think i read somewhere i can't anymore.

which apps are strictly for rooted phones? do they have an app that works like the IOS4(iphone 4 default, not app), where you see SSID and IP address and gateway address of every damn wifi in range? heck, one up IOS4, any way to hack routers to get free internet? say they use encryption? at the very least display SSID and IP address.

i saw this thing where the, i think its called launcher pro, and i think its already installed with lightningrom, but i dunno how to go from touchwiz to another gui? or what's it called?

i'm assuming i have cwm recovery? how do i access that?

really rooting and upgrading my sgs2 is awesome. specially since it doesn't heat up anymore. the interwebs is awesome. you guys are awesome :D

btw if i flash back to kh3 official, will i lose my root? i just wanna get rid of the yellow triangle at startup. how about if i use laucher pro, then flash back to kh3 official, will i lose laucher pro(assuming i get it to work in the 1st place)?

To back up I would use titanium backup. It will back up everything.

To get to launcher pro puss the home button and then choose launcher pro.

If you get the paid version of titanium you can use this to freeze apps. If you don't want pay App Quarantine's good. You can then freeze the launcher your not using stop you don't have to choose everyone you press home.

There should now be CWM in your app list. Just press this

its weird man i have super user, better batter stast and battery monitor. can i get cwm elsewhere?
 
i cant comment on custom roms coz im fine with the stock rom and have been using it for a while. to comment on ur last question, yes, if u change firmware to stock, u will lose root

to boot into CWM recovery, shut down the phone, then press volume up+home+power.. u should boot into CWM recovery. u shoudl also see the CWM manager app in ur app drawer. this is of course, assuming u rooted with CF root. if not, then u probably dont have CWM, and to be honest, after trying, icouldnt install CWM without CF root, so i just decided to root via CF root (its super easy too)

titanium backup is by far the best backup app ive used. since ur rooted, it should work great. if ur just into backup, like mentioned above, the free version is fine

im not sure about having multiple launchers, i was under the impression that if u installed a different launcher, such as launcher pro, ur given the option to use this by default, and u dont have to choose each time u press the home button :D have u tried messing around with the setings? i dont use any other launcher (GUI) so i cant comment here either, but im sure it doesnt have to be very messy.

i didnt know that litening rom includes launcherpro, but if u flash a stock rom, u will definitely lose it, along with all the added features or apps that the custom rom brought with it :)

Heshanj beet me too it. I was also going to say flash a cfroot kernel with odin. This will then give you CWM. You can then reflash the kernel lightning rom came with if you want using cwm. You shouldn't loose CWM but I would back it up just to be on the safe side

Do you have the latest 6.1 of litening rom. if so this doesn't have the CWM app, but the developer has put a link in his thread from which you downloaded the rom (it's a long thread, and will take a bit of searching - probably page 1324 or something ridiculous like that). the link is for a file which will download the CWM app to your phone.

You still can back up using kies. Makes sure you untick the debugging mode in Settings --> application --> development when you connect the device to computer.

I always backup contacts using Kies as restoring it is easy. Using google account is a nightmare.

For ROM I am using Revolution by LeoMars. Its the best one so far for me, you can do whatever tweaks you like.

How to access CWM is already answered by heshanj. However if you have CWM installed that does not mean you will have CWM Manager icon. It is pretty normal to have CWM installed and not having CWM manager. CWM manager is just an .apk (application). And you can download it or any other application that can manage CWM. I repeat CWM manager is just an .apk, it only manages CWM.

Backup your apps using Titanium Backup and freeze some apps with it. However, some of the apps can autostart. Therefore I would suggest you to also download gemini app manager. Disable the autostart of some apps.

I really doubt that you will not get a heat from your device anymore. Try to play game for 15 minutes and see whether you will not get the heat. Getting the heat from your device is PRETTY NORMAL considering how thin the device is!
 
Chainfire3D is worth a look at. Have installed it and the Nvidia plugin and can now play "Tegra II only" games like Pinball HD, Galaxy on Fire 2 and Samurai II Vengeance. Only Nvidia game I haven't been able to get to work so far is Sprinkle.
