Help Able to sync phone with Windows Contacts?

Hi,
I just sold my iPhone to get an Android phone. :)

I decided to get the Samsung Galaxy S II which should be arriving shortly.

Just a quick question, as I had an iPhone 4 previously, I synced my contacts with Windows Contacts. Is it possible to sync an Android phone with Windows Contacts to retrieve my contacts, or will I have to manually put all my contacts into my phone?

Thanks

Hi there,

You can download Samsung Kies from SAMSUNG
After you've done this you can connect your phone to your pc with a USB cable and you can select the option of syncing your contacts with Windows Contacts :)

You can also sync them with Yahoo, Google, Outlook and even connect Facebook accounts to your contacts.

Hope this helped you :)

I tried this but I couldn't get it to work. I'm trying to import my PC windows live contacts. But I don't know what folder on the PC to point to select the contacts.

u mean windows live contacts, or outlook contacts? if its windows live, u just need to add it in settings/accounts and sync.. add a hotmail account and ask it to sync ur contacts (and calendar if u want)

I have my Windows Live csv. file now on my SD card but I can't import it.
Contacts>Menu>Import/Export>Import from SD card>Faied to scan SD card

Scanning SD card failed (Reason:"No vCard files found on SD card")

I'm lost now.

Try importing with your gmail account.

u should be able to import ur csv file via the phone.. did u try putting it on the external SD or internal? and to be honest, its a shame not to have a google account with an android phone :D

I created a gmail account but I also have my sympatico.ca (Bell Windows Live) account on my phone as well.

The csv. file is on the external micro SD card which is located under the rear plastic cover beside the sim card. It does not use the typical standard external SD card slot.

yeah, thats ur external sd card. u could try the internal? give it a shot. im just grasping at straws here, but i cant think of anything else. i backed up my old nokia phone's contacts to a csv file and it worked fine.

alternatively u could try syncing ur windows live account with ur phone. like i mentioned earlier in this thread, go to accounts and sync, add ur windows live account (maybe u already have, and under that account, ask it to sync ur contacts. im not sure how sympatico.ca works but if its like an ordinary hotmail account it should work fine. hope this helps :)

I'm trying at all costs to try and keep anything new loaded to the phone restricted to the external SD card. It's 16Gb so it should do me well for some time. I imagine from time to time I'll have no choice but to use more of the internal memory but for now I'd like to limit anything whenever possible to the external SD card.

Onto your internal SD (memory) card?

I tried that and it wouldn't let me for some reason. I got an error type of message.

It's pretty much the same as a hotmail account for the most part.

hope this helps :)
Many thanks for your efforts thus far!!
.

well i assume that after ur contacts app finds the csv file, it stores the contacts info on the internal memory, regardless of where u copy the csv file to.. so u can give it a shot, and delete the csv after :) just a suggestion

yes, i did copy it onto my internal sd. im not sure if this is the reason (probably not) but i cant think of anything else so its worth a shot

if ur account works like a hotmail account, u should be able to add the account and sync contacts directly, without ur csv. select microsoft activesync exchange and give it a shot again

ur welcome, hope u manage to get this sorted soon :D

Export to a .csv file (save on your computer), then import into your gmail account. It will then sync the contacts to your phone.
I thought you had to have a gmail account to set up Android.

Good luck

Not that I was aware of. I had my Bell email account up and running first thing without having a gmail account.
I don't plan on using a gmail account as a primary account anyway. I only regsitered a new one to enable importing of my Bell contacts.

I might give MS Activesync a try as well. I have to use it when transferring data from my PC to my Ipaq H4150 PPC/PDA. I use that PPC/PDA in my car with ECUtalk (freeware) that's connected to my OBD port where I can pick and choose almost 30 different sensor readings and display in an analog gauge format.
