Root MIUI...hmmm

Thanks for the links guys. Is this rom worth running if I plan to use another launcher on it, like go launcher? The lack of 4g and HDMI isn't a deal breaker for me. But whats the big draw of this rom, other then the fact that some people might like the iphone look?

The ROM is very well built, it is fast and reliable. It does have HDMI as long as you have HDMI win and a supported kernel (tiamat). A lot of the built in apps are really good such as the dialer, messaging and browser.

Very much so. Some would say more-so than most roms.

I personally don't really care for the iphone look (not so much the look, just that every single app is installed to a homescreen and you have to re-order them one at a time...), so I always go with ADW or lately Go launcher.

This rom has a lot of nice features. Built in firewall (sort of, you pick what apps can use what network resources (3g, wifi etc..)) comes to mind.

K, i've been messing with this Rom for a few hours now, and all i gotta say is, its by far my favorite now....The speed is awesome, the battery life is awesome, and its just unbelievable how much you can customize your screens, settings, etc....some things that other roms have to flash in order to have, this Rom already has built in....its just fantastic in my opinion....the only drawbacks is having to flash the gapps.zip to have your visual voicemail, which only takes you about 10 seconds to do anyways so its not that much of a drawback...and if you need gps, you gotta do the steps to fix that, and even that isnt that hard to do.....this Rom is only gonna get better....if any of you wanna see a few screenshots of it here you go.....

this first one is for all you sense 3.0 lockscreen fans.....

happy flashing!!!! :D

Actually I love the rom, not for the iphone look, but for its overall sweetness. It's really smooth, functions are well integrated, it has very good sound and it's extremely customizable. For example, you can download a theme and use it as a whole for the system, or you can download 10 themes and use one element from each theme for different part of the system (for example, the icon from one them, the dialer from another theme, the lockscreen from a third theme, etc.). You can also download any of the launchers on the market and use them if you don't like the iphone launcher type. One thing you may need to fix is GPS as it is not readily functional just like in other AOSP roms. I tried so many times to go back to one sense rom that I like a lot, but I can't stay away from MIUI and keep coming back. I don't like the sms notification for voicemail but the rom is so nice that I forget about the little bugs. And did I mention it is very fast and battery last longer?!

If I use a different launcher, probably go launcher, will I lose all the customization that MIUI offers by itself? What I mean is will the visual customizations of go launcher override MIUI's customizations.

And how do you think MIUI's messaging app compares to the likes of go sms or handcent?

i cant help with the go launcher because i never use it....i like MIUI the way it is....but i cant see that being able to completely override the customizations...i think you'd be alright....just make a nandroid and if it does something you dont like then just restore your nandroid.....i believe the guy on here "an urge to dance" uses go launcher...i could be wrong but i thought he mentioned something about using it cuz he didnt like the iphone style....hopefully he will chime in and provide more info on that....

personally i like go sms pro.....and thats what i use to blacklist that stupid 9016 sms from sprint telling me i have a voicemail lol....it gets annoying when your getting voicemails all the time ....

I use LauncherPro over the MIUI launcher. You will lose the dock bar but thats about it everything else will be the way you make it in MIUI. All of the icons, status bar and all that will be MIUI. The stock messaging app has the functionality of handcent but not the customization. If you try out a different launcher you don't need a nandroid, just delete the launcher if you don't like it.

Will a Sense 3.0 keyboard work on MIUI? If so, does anyone have an apk or zip for it? I've gotten used to the sense keyboard from MikG ROMs and I'm having a hard time readjusting to the stock GB keyboard again

You know, I don't think so. You could try to install the apk from the sense rom...

I tried installing MIUI music on a sense rom, with out much luck.

I extracted the MIUI music apk from an older version and used it on all my sense ROMs. I'll upload one for you to try when I get back to work, i just never could get the lyrics scrolling to work correctly. I also used the MIUI camera as well on sense ROMs before the 3.0 camera apk's came out. Ill try extracting the keyboard from MikG tomorrow at work

FYI....

I moved Dalvik Cache to SD last night via terminal emulator while on the MIUI ROM. Today, i flashed back to MikG to run the ##GPSCLRX# fix (done it before 1st time i used CM7 switching from Myn's Warm 2.2), and was unable to do so. I ended up having to download/reinstall an EPST.apk to get the ## codes to work. Anywho, while in MikG, i noticed i had no data connection without using wifi. Flash back to MIUI, everything was good, but on Sense, nada. I figured it had something to do with dalvik cache, so i moved it back to the phone via terminal emulator -

su
a2sd nocache

Voila', data came back on Sense. Just wanted to share in case anyone else runs into this problem switching between MIUI and Sense if you've moved dalvik cache...
