obdii apps... do they exist?

The Gauge version will be able to display anything an ELM327 is capable of displaying. If your car can show boost as part of the standard PID set then it will work, but that's not likely unfortunately.

The currently released beta can only show DTC's, that's it.
 
Hello, I have had the droid for quite some time and I searched and searched for a data logging app of some sort forever. I accidently came upon this and I am buying the dongle soon. I downloaded the app so when it arrives it should be a good day. I have experience with palmpilot data logging for tuning cars with safc controllers.
 
I have a VERY repeatable CEL in Raleigh, NC on my Honda. It throws fuel too rich code, but I can force a VTEC malfunction, and I have the MAP sensor and VTM lines running into the passenger compartment and can force those codes with a simple jumper pull on each.

Would love to beta test.
 
You can download the CEL app on the market, search of OBD2 or OBDroid. I'm going to be making an update this weekend to fix an issue with multiple trouble codes.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I'm very interested in this sort of app for my htc hero. I have a bluetooth dongle and would love to help you with beta testing if you still need anyone. Right now i have a recurring light coming up saying I'm running too lean on a car. Please let me know if you can use any help with the testing. Thanks
 
Question, which part of the OBDLink tool has the bluetooth connector? if its in the big box does that mean you have to run the cable to the bx and stash it somewhere? The other ones look like small transmitter modules.
 
NOW I have a reason to get excited about the 2.x upgrade on the Eris!!! I won't have to carry my $400 scanner in my car

Yes, that is one unfortunate thing about the OBDlink tool. The other ones are indeed just small transmitter modules, no cable to worry about.
 
What are the chances of OBDroid working with a USB cable instead of Bluetooth? I have an OBD-to-USB cable from my COBB accessport. I use the COBB AP to read codes in my WRX (it's "married" to that car), but I'd like to be able to use the same USB cable to connect my Droid (using a mircoUSB adapter too) to my Volvo and read its codes. Can you add this?
 
As far as I know the Droid does not have a usb host chip so it can not connect to a usb obd2 device

There is some progress being made on this: USB Host mode on Motorola Droid. I started searching out ODBII on the android after reading that posting and found my way here. I'll invest the $55 for the DX Wireless Transceiver Dongle I found in this thread instead of jumping through hoops to try to get my Vag-com USB cable working and hoping maclcom2073 supports it.

Aww... I searched for OBDroid and OBD2 in the market and got zero hits.

UPDATE: Ok, found BarcodeScanner, learned how to use QR codes. Which is so amazingly cool I think I had a geekgasm. But when i open the URL from the QR Code for OBDroid, it's a no-go. I think it must have just been removed from the Market! :(

I found the apps in the androlib.com but there's no way to download them. And I don't know why searching for them in the Market doesn't turn anything up.

So what's a QR code and how do I use it?

It's still on the market, however it will not show up if your phone does not support it (Stupid way of doing things... it should show up, but tell you not supported). You must have Android version 2.0+ on your phone.
 
Man I wish something like this would exist for 1.5! Or maybe 1.6 if I can wait till we get the update. Got a cel on my Xterra.

I guess I'll go buy the obd2 module at crapadiantire get my code and return it. lol

Just an FYI for everyone, you can take your car to autozone/advance auto/pepboys etc and they will scan any CEL for free and tell you what the code means.
 
No autozone near here, garages and car dealers usually charge around 40-50 bucks to get the code form your ecu.

Anyway I just ordered a obd2 scanner package. So I will lug the ecu with my laptop instead of the phone.
 
Hey Thats a great app but i was wondering if you can also make a programmer like Moates.net or tunercatpro to program your custom eprom for example adjusting your fuel curve, boost control, timing, and etc. also data logging live While it is hooked up to your ecm and driving.

I'm fairly certain they don't have bluetooth compatable tools that can reprogram. If you find one, and want to buy me one I'll add support :)
 
Well that explains it, at least. I thought I was crazy. Yes, that's very stupid to not show it. I guess someone thought it would be easier that way. Or maybe just save bandwidth. Oh well. At leas there's hope, Sprint is supposed to release an update for the Moment to Android 2.1 so maybe later this spring I can use it. Thanks!
 
Wow, this is a great idea! I am a bit of a motorhead and really look forward to getting valuable information onto my Droid!

Just to be clear, can this application datalog? What is the best BT Dongle to use with this app? Can you clear codes with the app?

I grabbed the free version, but would be happy to pay for it once I get my BT Dongle. Thanks!
 
If I purchase a dongle and buy the paid version, once you add the ability to display guages and log info will I have to buy another version or will the update be available for free?

Dealxtreme's ~$60 dongle

As for free updates.... I haven't yet decided how to do that. Likely the code reading/clearing will remain a $1 option, and gauges/datalogging will be a separate program (without the ability to scan/clear codes). I'm still playing around with the logistics of a modular application.
