Does lapDock require diff data plan?

Does anyone know if the lapdock requires a different data plan than the $30/month unlimited plan that most of us already have? I seem to recall that it might require the addition of a tethering plan. I think it was the same way with the Atrix on ATT.

Thanks,

I read somewhere that the Photon 4G doesnt require it so im hoping the Bionic doesnt either! lol

Same question. Another user (bcltoys) posted this: "Looked at the lapdock little disclaimer 50.00 a month or higher data plan. It's pretty cool but 199.00 plus 20.00 a month I don't think so." Hope it's not true...

The manager at a corporate VZW store sold me the bionic and i asked him about the $50 charge in fine print next to the laptop dock...he said that if you bought the dock at the promotional price of 199 you have to upgrade to the $50 a month data plan but it wont be unlimited or you could buy the laptop dock standalone for $299 and use the unlimited $30 data plan. so its no additional charge if you by the laptop dock separately.

I was told the same thing when I asked at the store - the $50 data plan is only required in conjunction with the Lapdock promotional price of $200. If you pay full retail, the plan for your phone is all you need.

The lapdock requires no data plan. If your VZW rep told you that you needed a data plan in order to use the lap dock then you got screwed, royally. Lapdock is a built in feature in the Bionic, a data plan has no bearing on it's functionality between Lapdock and Bionic.

If any the confusion is probably related to the promotion that VZW is running on the Lapdock. It currently goes for 399.99, if you add one of the new data plans either $50 or $80 with the Bionic you get a $100 rebate on the lapdock. The old $29.99 unlimited data or new $30 disqualifies you from the $100 rebate.

I ordered the laptop dock with the phone from VZW online. It was $299.99. No extra plan was needed, just the data plan for 2GB at $30.00. The laptop is pretty nice though. Just a little bigger than the Xoom and a little heavier but still nice. The only thing that bothered me a little after I was playing with it was when I went to watch a Youtube video through a web page and it told me that I was running low on memory. Other than that it is pretty sweet and haven't had any problems with it. It's not as fast as a normal laptop but gets the job done. Overall I am very impressed with the whole set up.
