Preorder at Wirefly for $150

I heard different, if you buy at Wirefly you cannot purchase insurance from Sprint. See it at the bottom of this discussion: Epic 4G Touch @ Best Buy and Radio Shack

What you heard was incorrect. Far instance, even if you didn't purchase the phone with insurance, this month Sprint is offering to sign you up. There is NEVER a restriction on where you purchase the phone. I have purchased two phones on eBay, one on Amazon Wireless and one on Wirefly. All the phones were covered by TEP.

Why, you ask? Because Sprint makes loads of money from this program. If you take care of your phone (which my kids do not), then you would be better putting your money in savings.

Sorry to say this, but the carrier will usually report that to us as a deactivation. They will not allow us to process those orders. We wish we could, trust me. :(

Hmmm. I guess the question would have to be put to Sprint, but I have done this in the past. Sprint has swapped ESN's on my account without an issue. However, policies always change, so I suppose this one could have also. I don't see why they would change the policy though.

Oh, I see what Wirefly is saying. I don't think the question was about Wirefly doing the exchange. I think he wanted to later have Sprint swap the ESN's on his one account. I don't think Sprint would report that as a deactivation. The same phones stay on the same one account.

Question I have is with this deal wouldn't sprint charge the $36 upgrade fee? From what I read they seem firm on this fee sticking so that would make the phone $186 as opposed to if you order this on sprints website the fee is waived. So your basically saving $14?

So your basically saving $14?

This is a good point for some.

For me, California pushed me into going out-of-state because of our tax on the entire retail price. (About $45.) Then, I used my girlfriend's BofA card (Add It Up program) to save another $50.

And...because it's an upgrade, my fee from Sprint is only $18 different.

(Oops. I didn't see the upgrade fee is changing to $36 on September 9th. I guess I'll have to call Sprint and get it waived.)

UPDATE: Oh, oh. I was just speaking with a Sprint CSR on another issue and asked him about the upgrade fee. He tells me that the fee will also go up online from zero to $18. (Take that for what it is. This is coming from a CSR after all.)

So the difference is still $18 between online and any other location, according to one CSR.

Call Sprint customer service. They often move your upgrade date up for you. Just be nice and persistent, but it might also help to have a specific complaint (your old phone is crap, your service has really sucked, your dog has fleas, etc.).

Then re-order.

I called Sprint and they moved my date up... to the 17th. So I guess I can't pre-order from Wirefly. I hope that Best Buy has some kind of promotion.

I just preordered. Its $119 if you go through the friends and family link here.

they bumped price up to $139. grrr. i knew wirefly routinely does this, offer cheap initially and then as deal hits the various web forums and there's big demand they increase price ... yet i still procrastinated. oh well.

still $99 if you go the BOA additup route ($149 - $50 cash back)

correct me if i'm wrong.. but buying from wirefly means:
1) i have to continue to use the epic 4g touch for at least 181 days and can not swap the phone out for any other within that time frame.

2) any problems with the phone must be sent to wirefly? (I have Sprint TEP) EDIT: i think this has been answered in this thread... i can just take it to sprint.

Sorry to hear that and thanks for posting. I already ordered mine, whew! :p

i don't have BOA checking though, epic deal for those that do!

1) Correct and on same number. (ie, can't use wife's upgrade and then activate on your line now or within 181 days)
2) Take to sprint if you have TEP.

The reason the carrier will report this as a deactivation to us, is that when we activate the phones in their system, the phone number is linked to the ESN on the phone. If the numbers get changed around and the number on the phone does not match the one assigned to the ESN, the carrier will report that as a deactivation to us, and will not compensate us for the sale and activation of the phones. When that deactivation is reported, the customer is deemed to be in violation of our purchase terms. (Those are here: Wirefly terms and conditions including our equipment discount policy) We all wish we could do these types of upgrades, but the carrier will not allow us to. :(

I'm never trying to pre order a phone from Sprint ever again, that's for sure. Wish I could use Wirefly, but im using upgrade eligibility from one line onto my line :(

picked up 2 from wirefly, excited to get them... Best price I have seen in my search so far. Save a ton when you factor in no tax too.

Actually cancelled my order about two hrs ago after watching multiple videos just not feeling the touchwiz, I totally agree the HTC screen next to the Sammy screen is like digital TV to HD TV that aside the layout the Widgets just don't seem like my thing who knows might change my mind I've been with sprint for over 15 yrs could probably get one Wednesday 'wait for root then flash a sence rom I still think HTC will have a duel core 1.5 HD screen after Xmas or before never had a Sammy phone

Really? Because you don't like TouchWiz...? Wow usually Android users who don't like the UI just download alternative launchers like GO Launcher EX, LauncherPro, ADW, etc. Not write off the phone altogether. But whatever floats your boat.

dude....just root it and install whatever you want on it. I believe it already comes unlocked...you shouldn't have such smart of a phone if you can't do that. and like someone else said, DL custom launchers

That isn't really something for anyone to say to others. There are literally tons of people that don't root, the majority of the people actually. Rooting isn't always that simple, though it shouldn't be too hard for this phone. Everyone should be able to buy any phone without having to root if they do not want to. By no means does that mean if they are not smart enough to root then they shouldn't have this phone.

Rooting is great, I root everyone phone I buy, but rooting isn't for everyone.

With that said this phone is great out of the box. Though Touchwiz isn't for everyone. For those that don't like touchwiz, you have a couple of options.

1 - Try and get use to it, not as bad as it use to be.
2 - Use a custom launcher in the marketplace, plenty of great ones. (Launcher pro, ADW, GoLauncher)
3 - Root and use custom ROMS once available.
4 - Unfortunately this phone wont be for everyone, if this is you, then you might want to skip this phone and pick up a different one.

Thankyou to the above three posters wolfude, eyecon, so lo , and as for the other one ,i'll try and remember my periods , you all brought up very valid points , why i didn't think of them before cancelling not sure , i am aware or those factors although ,i never used an alternative launcher , jusy beautiful widgets paid , i didn't kmow the sammy was gonna come with an unlocked bootloader have to look into that , i know root should be up for the phone in a few days at most , all in all i thank you for your posts as they have given me a fifferent persepective ..... lol Thanks again hope to c you on the boards

This is exactly right. You might a well assume every customer is a dev or hacker thinking they have to root. People buy phones based off what they like natively. Honestly if you like a phone that much you won't root it, then that's awesome. If you want to, then XDA just made a home for the Epic Touch 4G. Nothing as far as root just yet but once it comes out, well, you know how they work.
