Two questions about TapFish

I have two mentanks already. They look pretty good in bulk!

Pause.

But yeah, I broke down and made one too cause it's just what I do when I put up and example like that. One of the sharks from shark week also is good but not good enough for a breakdown. I have a tank specifically dedicated to and named "CashFish."

Also, congratulations, Witches on the ugly skunk fish of epic profits. Guess I should update your tank now huh?

*tear*

Graduated from Gramma schools. They grow up so fast. LoL

PS: Finished a crab tank. And almost done with white snailfish.

Hey Guys! Thank you Obee for the list of your favorite tanks! I will visit them to check myself! I Think my favorite tank is snapper9 (I just added an decorated!), but as Obee I keep changing my mind!
Did you guys see the new fish events?
I have some question about it:
Can you breed the crabs with other fish? I'm asking this because I don't see them listed on the trophies!
To win the rewards, do you have to breed the crabs together or can you breed then with another fish? I mean, mixed fishes (event fish x common breedable) counts to get a reward?
You guys have tons of fishbucks...did u try any of the procedures above??
Let me know!
Regards from Brazil

Hmmm... I've heard about this game for some time and kept holding off on getting it.

But now that I see people posting about their fish tanks and so on, it does look quite interesting. :)

You can only breed the female crab with the male crab and the baby they make is random. From the looks of it there are about six different ones. Though you have to be like counting to the minute to get in 30 breeds before the event is over unless you have a shitton of fishbucks. Cause with 15 tanks it'll take exactly 6 days. And that's assuming you start today. Gonna check and see if there are different male crabs soon but I doubt it. Or maybe breed them more to see if maybe there are some rare breeds I haven't gotten in 30 tries. You can check my tank called Crabs to see them.

PS: There's a new breedable fish too the white snail fish I also have all of them. Check Slow No and Slow Mo2 to see them. Sped up and everything.

Mindbenda, does the new crab reward background look kind of stretched and distorted to you? It seems so to me and I'm a bit disappointed since I cleared all my breeding tanks in order til get the 15 in time to win the background.

I lost my event decorations. So I don't care about them anymore. -.- They were in the tanks, I closed tapfish now they're gone.

I still see your hermits and the snails. The snails are pretty ugly. Dunno whether I want to spend my fishbucks on that ugly thing.

The background looks fine to me.

From what I can tell, there are 9 different breeds of hermit crab. I kept breeding them and kept getting multiples. The raining shells gets annoying after a while though and I don't know how to get rid of them =\

Yeah dude, strangest thing. As you breed crabs you unlock decorations. I got everything from the event and yet only the showering shells remain. Pretty lame but oh well. As for the snails? They are ridiculously ugly but I only bought it cause the female crab is breedable. Checked for trophies and it said 38/39 Figured because of the crab, checked a random fish and saw snail, found it in limited bought it bred it. LoL

I saw all the decorations in your tank butI know that neighbors might not always see the current status. There are 12 fish and all the decorations are on the left.

What type of phone are you running on?

For today, my own favorite tanks are Fannies (guppies and bettas) and RainFlwr (rainbow nothos and flower fish). 9th and 6th from the end.

I still like my Ugliest tank, too - tank #5.

Also check out my mermen tanks - MenWed and MenMonpm - about half way down the list.

Mindbenda,
I guess it's fine - just not as smooth a graphic as some of the other backgrounds. Did you get the second background, too - the one for breeding 30 event fish?

Yeah I bread 30 crabs in like five minutes. Also there are 10 just got an all red one lol

Have you used the second background? I still see one Crabs tank with the first background, 13 crabs, and a bunch of decorations including the seashell shower. I think the crabs are pretty neat looking. How many unique ones do you get? It looks like all 13 in your tank are different.

I'm breeding 8 right now - 6 different ones and 2 repeats.

Obee, your Hermits tank looks great! I like the placement of your decorations and the 30-fish background is a lot sharper than the 15-fish one, although I'm still looking forward to getting it. I guess you can't figure out how to stop the shell shower either!

Hahs, thanks! I hate that hideous shell shower and I don't know how to get rid of it... So I just re-named the tank STOPRAIN for now. Haha. I tried pressing buy again to maybe disable it, and it stopped I thought, but then it started up again. Frustrating..

I also bred out the white snails. I'm running out of tanks, so I'm starting to consolidate the bred tanks, two into one, to free up more tanks for future use! I wish I could just add more tanks, but I'm already at 80 (the limit), so I'll just sell the bred fish that aren't worth keeping, like the smashed.

Maybe you should move all your unwanted fish into the raining tank and they'll get pelted to death by the shells! have you asked the devs how to stop the rain?

Yeah, but they haven't responded yet. They probably don't even know. Who would even want that hideous thing anyway?? It may be cute for the first minute, but then it gets torrential.

I thought it was going to be this cute little fixed decoration, but nope, SHELLS STREAMING DOWN IN YOUR FACE CONSTANTLY AND YOU CAN'T RUN & CAN'T HIDE???... That's what my hermit crabs were probably thinking, trying to scurry away staying protected under their own shells. Haha. I had to save them and put them in another tank. :P

I won't have bred enough to "win" those shells, but for future reference, can one NOT claim a particular prize if it shows up?

Yeah, I bred all hermits first and then went back and started claiming the prizes. I started off with the 30 background (the crab shack bg)- which to me, if you're going for the most authentic for hermies, would be the best bg for them since they need a partially dry substrate to dig in. But this game isn't very accurate with it's fish names, habitats & plants to begin with, soo.... ;)

That's the one thing that bugs me about the game. Some of the fish names are closely to what they represent, but some are absolutely not, and I can see it making the pet industry THAT much more annoying. For example, remember when Finding Nemo first came out? I used to work at a pet store, and everyone kept asking for a "Nemo" fish to put in a gallon "fish bowl." For one, there's no such thing as a "Nemo" fish. Two, I HATE when people think it's acceptable to keep fish in anything less than five gallons! Fish are alive too, just like cats and dogs, but are treated like they are expendable. Sheesh, people!

When the devs first started the game, couldn't they have accurately named everything? The plants are mostly made up names or twisted from the real thing. Anachris is the only one in the game, from the top of my head, I can think of that is a true aquatic, except it doesn't look like that and it's green not blue. There may be a blue one out there, but the most common you would find in aquarium tanks are bright or light green, depending on how you care for it. The fish are even worse. I mean, I know most of the fish are made up, but come on! the developers had a chance to make this game educational, but instead chose to make up dumb unimaginative names. The gouramis are acceptable, I guess. The algae eaters are switched- the Chinese is the shinny guy with the stripe and the fat sucker should be named "Pleco." There's a lot more, but I bore you all with my rant.

Okay, < end rant >

But I'll add a real life tip out there for real live fish keepers:

If you want to buy a live plant for your tank and confused on what to get, definitely go for JAVA FERN. It's a little bit pricier to buy at first, but it lasts FOREVER and is EASIER to care for than most other plants offered at the store like Anachris, Hornwort, Moneywort, Cabomba, Corkscrew, Wisteria, any grasses or spiral grass, potted plants. The best part is it re-grows little baby plants off of its mother leaf (you'll see tiny spores that look like dirt spots at first) so you'll really only have to buy one or two to get you going to decorate a bunch of tanks.

I love this stuff; I still have the very first plant I bought back in 2009, and it had grown babies that then went on to grow its own babies and so on and so forth, enough to furnish five large tanks and then some. I was throwing extra away or giving it to friends!

Amazon sword is another good one, but you need a big and tall tank for that one to really thrive, because once the tallest leaf hits outside the top of your tank, you've got a dead leaf that well suck energy from the rest of the plant unless you clip it asap. Ozelot sword is a good one for a smaller tank, if you like the sword family. Also other hardy ones are in the Anubias family, Crypts.

! That's the one thing about keeping any live plant, though, is the care. A lot of the plants I mentioned before don't hold up unless there in pristine conditions, in really bright light, enough space, no fish eating it all time, or well conditioned water, so that's why I picked Java fern as the best plant overall. Even if you keep it it the dark, it would find a way to "swim" or adapt to little sunlight and STILL grow babies. There is minimal clipping involved; more of a set it and forget it kind of plant. Many fish are known not to like the taste of Java Fern, so they won't gobble it up before it can have a chance to grow, like with gold fish (& btw, if you have gold fish, PLEASE feed them a supplement of veggies! If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask me and Ill explain in another post).

One thing you MUST do, first thing when you bring the plant home, is to separate it into several plants. What the store gives you makes you think its one plant, but it's actually a bunch of them sewn together with black thread. So, clip the thread and carefully take each plant so apart- you can tell by each rhizome, each with it's tangled set of roots. If you leave it bunched together, it still will probably grow and live, but not very well. Also, you don't have to plant it into rocks or substrate, just let out float! I do with mine and it gets better access to the sun that way anyway.

Dead plants can lead to dirty water, which ultimately can lead to dead fish. But easy maintenance can lead to easy long term care and healthier more vibrant fish! & live plants are much more appreciated than plastic fake ones!!
