Glad I stuck with Photon (GS2)

I Work at Best Buy. Friend in Mobile said he's on his 4th Galaxy S2 return.

Issues with charging, battery holding charge, software issues, etc.

Although my photon has been randomly restarting once a week

Oddly enough, that's an issue I'd been experiencing with the original Epic for the past month, until I brought it in to Sprint tech support for fixing.

Yeah battery drain, overheating, and bad reception are some of my problems.

Brushrop, I thought you were going to return the Photon. The screen display doesn't bother you anymore? lol
 
My Epic shits all over the my Photon in every way except sound quality. I really think i may have had hardware issues. That phone would just get so unresponsive, click an app and nothing. Havent takin it out the box since the Gs2 Epic arrived. Keeping it though just incase dev pics up on it. It will be my test phone :)
 
If you think you're seeing lots of returned Epic 4G Touch phones NOW, just wait until word spread a little more that the E4gT will never be able to do EVDO Rev.B

The news has already gone nuclear at XDA, is spreading like wildfire on Android forums right now, and will probably be hitting Slashdot/Wired/Gizmodo/Engadget by Monday or Tuesday.

Sad, but Samsung. They just can't help themselves. They keep making phones that are almost perfect, then ruin them at the last minute by trying to save literally a dollar in manufacturing costs. They used the old, obsolete version of Qualcomm's CDMA baseband processor, and ended up condemning what could have been their best phone ever to the bargain bin of unloved toys.

Well I love mine. Its been the best Android phone I have ever had. Has been reliable which counts the most for me. Cant say that about alot of the others I have owned

LoL. Well the screen is the only thing i'm not a fan of. Otherwise I luv it. I haven't had time to even watch video like I use to since school has started. :(

The plan was to sell the phone back to Best Buy and get $300 back and then use my mom's upgrade in October for a different phone.

But it won't be for the Galaxy unless these issues are fixed. So we'll see. Maybe the new Nexus.
 
The EVDO Rev. B thing may be overblown, I'm not convinced the ET2 won't support it (even if current evidence seems pretty damning). Also unknown is whether or not Sprint is even going to roll out Rev. B; hopefully we'll find out more in October.

That said, it makes me even happier that I stuck with the Photon. :)
 
I hope that Sprint does roll out EVDO Rev B before the fruit hits our network. My 3g speeds suck so bad even without the rotten fruit stinking up our network yet and I'm in a good signal area. 4g is useless here. It cuts in and out.

I guess we'll find out on Oct. 7th... Or not... Remember this is Sprint we're talking about. When was the last time our network was upgraded successfully? Maybe I'm becoming more pessimistic. Oh well.

Can you explain what this means to me? In idiot terms please. o) I just picked up the Photon, but not sure I want it. I was looking at the Evo3d and the Epic 4gT. I have 30 days to return so I am giving this a spin first.

Ok, the point may be completely moot since I've read somewhere that Sprint won't be rolling out EVDO Rev B... But we won't know for sure until the announcement on Oct. 7th.

Currently for 3g data Sprint uses a technology called EVDO Rev A. EVDO stands for Evolution Data-Optimized or Evolution Data Only. It's a standard for transmission of data through radio waves.

There is a newer revision (EVDO Rev B) that handles data at a much faster rate allowing more data to be transmitted at a faster rate.

In order to use these technologies your phone must have the proper chip.

The MoPho has the proper chip to be able to use EVDO Rev B. The E4gT does not. Therefore if Sprint decides to upgrade to EVDO Rev B, the E4gT won't be able to use it. The MoPho could use it because it has the proper chip.

Again, we don't really know what Sprint will announce on October 7th about upgrading the network as part of the Network Vision project. So this may not be so bad for E4gT users.

Then again this points to the typical short-sightedness for which Samsung is frequently guilty. They saved a few cents by installing a chip that is six years old instead of installing a chip that is current and could use emerging technologies.

But this might be no big deal, especially to the average customer who doesn't know about these technologies.
 
I'm not a fan of samsung, I was along time ago, but once I got into feature rich dumbphones that ended very quickly. Samsung has a history of building very capable and maybe even cutting edge hardware (on paper) then cutting corners here and there and it's like a pretty book that's been written by a dyslexic.

Every smartphone launches with bugs, but I find samsung takes it's sweet time updating the firmware. I've had my MoPho pretty much from launch day and every problem/ glitch I've encountered Motorola has issued a fix for. What more can I ask for?
 
I love my Photon. A couple of software updates and one exchange for hardware issues and I couldn't ask for a faster more capable phone. Size is nice, battery life is acceptable, and the phone is fast. Unlike others, 3g is good here. 4g is rolling out. There is a small pocket of it in a near by town. I use wifi at home if 3g is having a slow day. Now all I am looking for is a wireless charging solution. I don't like what is out there currently.
 
One other thing I just thought of to make you love your Photon even more......Get rid of the case. I keep my Photon in a Forte leather holster when going out and about. But for at home or work I ditched the case. I cover the screen with a PhantomSkinz (best screen protector I ever have used) and otherwise go naked. It is the best.
