YES, you need a task killer app for the Eris. PERIOD.

One of the great joys of the internet is that none of us really knows what anyone else looks like. For all we know, OTD could be a pimply 15-year-old boy who can't get a date ... but it doesn't really matter. :)

You were doing fine there up until "... but it doesn't really matter."

Many people here seem to be confused and think that you dont need a task killer app for the Eris...

YES you do.

People will argue that Android is Linux based and that Linux reallocates memory as needed. This maybe true but it is this EXACT process that slows down the Eris and causes even more lag than you already have from the outdated old CPU.

This is proven because anyone can confirm that once the Eris reaches 30mb of memory the entire phone starts to LAG even more than normal and under multitasking the phone becomes ridiculously slow at times all due to this memory reallocation process. This has been 100% confirmed.

This is the MAIN reason why you need task killer apps, to keep your Eris memory free so that apps load fast instead of having the Eris reallocate memory and THEN load the app into memory. Not only that but when the apps you ALREADY have loaded into memory need MORE memory this reallocation cripples performance and again causes more LAG.

Some people simply cant understand this....this has been 100% proven.

Phones like the Nexus One are so fast that this memory reallocation process does not noticeably impact its performance.
I agree with this. I read the post about not needing the Task Killer and tried going without it...my phone was terrible the second half of the day...i dont care if having task killer makes me OCD about killing tasks...at least the phone will be smooth when i want to use it. it works great after you exclude your commonly used apps so that they arent constantly reopening. I definitely agree though, you NEED a task killer. So many random apps load themselves in the background that have no need to be...

So this is your first post here.

Newsradio must be very grateful.

 Of course, you are not Newsradio yourself.

Of course.

Ummm... No SHE'S definately not a boy. one can tell from her writting. Or typing. Whatever...

Think you're a bit on the delusional side there. I've read AndroidForums for a while now and wanted to share my thoughts. I don't really care about whatever News Radio is, I just know my Eris is faster with a Task Killer. Didn't know that we had a gang of nerds on here that tries to run the forum though, good to know to expect this kind of response from this website.

Well that straightens that out.

I'll unsubscribe from this thread now, didn't know I'd get an email for every worthless reply that is made. Have fun arguing about whatever News Radio is, I'll enjoy using Task Killer to keep my Eris running smooth. Bye kids!

Ahhh Pitamakan, gotta be a 1337 *nix user (*nixer?) from Montana :P Never had a major issue with XP, ran that for nearly 8 years without a reinstall, ran it for days to weeks on end and it kept up. But if the android based phones are running a form of linux why would there ever be any issues? ;)

Lets change this topic to the classic Windows vs Mac OS vs Linux. I'm sure we can resolve which is best in a matter of a few posts.

Yeah.. it's that old, musty multi-account odor.

I used to run a huge political forum.. I miss the power of the server logs.

I'm sure some admin here is getting a kick out of it though. ;)

I hear ya! I run a vBulletin powered forum of my own. Love the power of the admin!!!

Bye Bye!!! Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

Is it just me or is anyone else really curious about what OTD really looks like???
I'm curious about how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.....the world may never know.;)

LMAO

JUST KIDDING OTD :p:D

Thanks a lot! I almost had diet coke come out of my nose when I saw that.

LMAO!

These two statements don't really fit together. You've been reading for a while and didn't know who was here? How does that work? This is a forum about S-M-A-R-T-P-H-O-N-E-S. Who exactly did you expect to find? We all have to have a little geek in us to want to come here in the first place.

way to run off a new member guys....jeez...

BACK ON TOPIC! before this super awesome thread gets locked

/removed pseudo mod hat

There's no way to prove it, but I think it's quite obvious that the need for a task killer is determined by the apps you decide to download. The need significantly varies by user.

I'm just not sold on the "auto killers" because the Android system automatically relaunches programs that are killed.
