Hello, Just got my Commando yesterday. It replaces a G'Zone Ravine which had replaced a G'Zone Type V. So, this is my FIRST smartphone and I am a little overwhelmed.

I've gone through most of the threads here, a wealth of info. I had two, quick initial questions. One, I have a ringtone on my Ravine which is of my daughter giggling. I would like to transfer it to my Commando. I could not find it on my memory card which was taken out of my Ravine and put into the Commando. Two, does anyone know if there is an extended battery available?

Thanks for any info.

OK, I was able to use my ringtone. It showed up as music on the memory card so I was able to have it put into my ringtone playlist as a song.

Hi, and congrats on getting a great phone/device. Not sure about your ringtone. It would seem that the card would have transferred it over to the new phone, but the older phone was a "non-smart", if that makes any diff. Did you make sure it's not located someplace else? When I set a new tone the alerts, emails, and actual phone rings are in diff places/files. So if I want to place a new calendar alert for instance it only shows the alerts selection and not ringtones and vice versa.
As for the extended battery, that question is easy to answer, unfortunately , it's a NO. Nothing yet as far as batteries. The integrity of the water tight back would need to be protected and hence require a special door. I think they might be staying away from that issue. An oem size but a little bigger would be nice tho, maybe down the road, we can hope. I finally decided to try using the "auto" bright screen setting instead of full 100% bright and it helps. They say rooting helps also. I'm not going to root for that reason. No custom ROMs, so rooting to me makes little sense and can brick your phone if done wrong. My commando works really superbly well and I'm not anxious to mess with success. ;)

EDIT: didn't see your 2nd post. Glad you got that anyway.

The actual process of rooting your phone carries little risk of bricking your phone. Especially now with the one click root method. Rooting your phone does give you the ability to completely screw it up though.

There is a list here:

http://androidforums.com/commando-a...list-apps-safely-remove-tips.html#post3167957

of applications that are safe to remove. Some of these apps run in the background and use data - that uses battery. Many have found by removing them their battery life increases. I think it has for me, but more than anything my battery life has a direct coorelation to the amount of time my screen is lit up. If I am busy and the phone is in my pocket, my battery life is great. If things are slow and I have time to play cards or surf the net, then not so much.

If you do decide to root your phone and remove the apps using Titanium Backup, that would be a great place to stop. Please do not mess around in the /system/.. area because you can render your phone useless. There is no working recovery and no way to restore the phone if you put it into a boot loop.

Ask questions here, because there are a lot of knowledgable folks on here that can help you.

Just remember that having root access completely voids your warrenty even if the warrenty issue is not in any way related to the phone being rooted.

The sales person at Verizon was convinced that there was notification of an extended battery. I will see her tomorrow to follow up.

On my Ravine, the OEM ext. battery stuck out a little, but it came with a new Casio waterproof back with a corresponding hump. Worked great, even had the same textured, rubbery finish as the original battery cover. I wish the Commando had the same rubber exterior as the Ravine. The humped cover was fine since the holster mounted the phone facing inward.

If I can confirm an extended battery, I'll post info.

Thanks for the info.
