Life after DINC?

Though I'm in no hurry (loving my Incredible with Nils Business Gingersense 3.0) I'm guessing my next phone will be the Vigor (or whatever Verizon names it). Like a lot of you, I'm due for an upgrade on December 28 (the magic date for those of us who ordered the Incredible pre-release). Assuming the Vigor will have been out for a couple of months by then, I'll consider taking the plunge if the reviews are good. If not, I can wait for the next "big thing" in the pipeline. I'm perfectly happy to keep my Incredible as long as I need to.

the samsung droid prime which is rumored to be the next nexus phone is coming in october to november

Am partial to HTC hardware.

Oh, remind me again, is Samsung now a good guy or are they still the bad guy when it comes to keeping promises of upgrading existing systems, etc.?

Nexus Prime = Good
Droid Prime = likely Verizon branded, bloatware, and slow to nonexistent updates.

When it's a Nexus, Samsung does nothing after manufacturing it. It's Google's job to update the OS. However, we won't know for sure until it's announced whether or not the Verizon version is a true Nexus, or if it's loaded with Verizon crap and locked down.

Thanks for the info. Good to know.

well thats where im wondering about the droid and nexus prime, will it be a google phone, and get the updates from google? or will verizon need to bloat it and when the updates come down hold them and then push them out once they have updated the bloat into it.

all makes you think about it

I'm up for new in Jan. But I feel the same way, don't want a huge screen, want to stay with HTC, but have heard rumors that the next Nexus will be on VZW...tempting even though I am pretty sure it'll be a samsung GS2. Some many Choices to make...I wish I could get a dual-core, 4 inch screen like the DINC2, w/front facing camera, Micro HDMI, and NFC chip. Is that too much to ask?

Droid Prime's app list was leaked yesterday. I scanned it, and not one single Verizon app. Even when the Incredible was getting RUU leaks from HTC, there was at least some Verizon software on there (typically just the backup manager and installer packages). This leak was completely devoid.

Now, that's not a guarantee that the Droid Prime won't be Verizon-branded, but at the very least, it's a positive indication. I'm more optimistic now than I was before. We should know more on the 11th.

I think it would be a indication that it won't be coming to Verizon. I honestly can't imagine anyway Verizon would allow a unbranded phone on their network.

there are only 2 that i can read and see, but who knows, it may change

The model number in the leak matches the Verizon version, not the multi-carrier version. It is coming to Verizon. What's not confirmed is absolutely what will be on the device in the form of bloatware.

APN service is a requirement to connect to the network. I just haven't seen it in this form before (Verizon app). I'm curious to find out if removing this disables the device. If it does, ROM development on this device is going to be a lot more interesting.

its possible, i have been hearing that the vigor will be replacing the thunderbolt, and be labeled thunderbolt2
only time will tell.

Name choices are Vigor/Inc HD/Rezound though it appears Vigor may just be it, either way I'm on this as soon as it comes out

The Vigor is about the only phone I am interested in looking at. Still 4.3" sceen and poor battery life... Both kind of deal breakers for me, but I guess I will look at it with an open mind. Wish HTC would make a new phone the size of the Inc.

They will. Should be announced February in Barcelona and launched in April, just like the last two.

That's assuming of course they don't make it bigger like they did last time. Would be nice if they stuck with the 4" form factor but only time will tell

I went from the Inc 1 to the Inc2 and I'm really liking it. At first I didn't think the Inc2 was a huge improvement from the Inc 1, but after reading more about it from people who actually own it, I realized it's the phone I really wanted. It is a much faster phone, even though it's also rated at 1GHz. It's a newer processor with an upgraded graphics chip and also has more ram at 768MB. All that combined makes the Inc2 a much faster phone. The battery life is also much much better, it can easily last twice as long as the Inc1.

The Inc2 is perfect for me because, like you, I didn't want a phone with a screen larger than 4". For me I could care less about 4G, it is a battery drain, and 3G is fast enough for me. Also, it can now be rooted and has good unofficial community support. It is also nice to have a front facing camera since I use it to talk to far away relatives once in a while.

I had a promotional early upgrade and I ended up getting the Droid 3, but returned it 10 days later. Inc 2, to me is actually faster than the Droid 3, even though it is dual-core. I think the Droid 3's 512MB ram holds it back. The Inc2's screen is much better than the Droid 3's washed out screen. The Inc2's screen looks almost as good as the Inc's AMOLED, and it's actually visible in bright daylight. With the Inc2 I no longer have manually adjust my brightness settings to save battery, I just leave on auto and it works great. All those little things add up to make the Inc 2 a great phone.

I got my Inc2 used from ebay. There's nothing else out for verizon that's compelling enough for me to extend my contract at this point. I'll save my upgrade for an Ice cream Sandwich phone that can be rooted and has good battery life.

Screen size increased, but overall form factor and size had moderate changes. I think their Desire/Inc line is meant to be mid-sized and mid-range, but that's always open to change.

Or what is considered "mid-range" could get bigger.

Yep, I agree with ya 110%... I have debated going to the Inc2 just because nothing else is interesting me. I actually passed up a bran new Inc2 locally here that I regret passing on. Still keeping my eyes posted for another good deal. I think I will snap it up next time, because even if HTC comes out with a new one in April that I like, I will have an upgrade available. I have since July and have no interest to use it on anything coming out.
