Root updating rooted phone

I have had my droid charge rooted for over a month and just updated to gummycharged 2.0 but i believe that my voodoo lag fix and CWM are out of date and I dont know how to update them. and to see what kernel my phone is runnig

To find out what version of iMoseyOn's kernel you have (that's the one that comes with GummyCharged FE 2.0), open up Terminal Emulator. At the command line type in "cat kernel_version".

You should get something that looks like this...
imoseyon_leanKernel_charge_voodoo_1.*

His latest version is 1.2.2 so it should read like this...
imoseyon_leanKernel_charge_voodoo_1.2.2

Voodoo Lag Fix doesn't need updated if you're going to be updating the kernel, that gets updated as part of it.

The last version of CWM was updated on 0817 or August 17th, 2011. It does say on the top of the screen in CWM "CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.4".

As for updating your kernel, I have instructions here.

Doesnt show anything in the terminal when i type that in

my current version of CWM 3.1.0.1
and voodoo lagfix recovery v3.0.2.8x (red text)

yeah but how do i update voodoo and CWM im sure that the kernel is upto date since i just installed the latest gummy charged

You can grab an updated copy of CWM here. That can be flashed via Odin.

Voodoo can't be out of date. Voodoo lagfix is just the name given to the ability to convert your phone partitions to EXT4 from RFS. Compatibility with EXT4 is dependent upon your kernel.

IMoseyON's latest repacked EP1W kernel is available here.

[edit: Sorry, saw 2.0 and assumed it was the Gingerbread edition. This kernel shouldn't be used on FroYo builds, as mentioned below.]

If you are running GC FE 2 then you want to use the 1.2.2 kernel from here - the EP1W-based kernel from a few posts above is Gingerbread, and that will not make your phone happy.

Nice catch on that trparky!

kernel is upto date just need to update voodoo and CWM

Ok - well then it seems Cilraaz had you covered. His post has a link to a thread with the current CWM (at least that I am aware of), and voodoo is not something that needs to be updated - but in case you haven't make sure to get the Voodoo Control app from the market. There is a free version and a pay version - the pay version will come in handy for those on Gingerbread.

I just saw this thread and was wondering what kernel I am running. When I go into terminal emulator and type "cat kernel_version", the result is:

kernel_version: No such file or directory

Assuming you installed the FE version of Gummy Charged, the kernel that came pre-installed with that did not have this functionality - it did not come on board until version 1.2.2. If you have not installed a new kernel, you are essentially on the 1.0 version - check out this thread for more info.
