Help Factory data reset

I need to do a factory data reset but I am afraid that I will delete my contacts. Can anyone please walk me through it?

Welcome to Android Forums, Liz.

I'd first make sure all of the contacts that I want to keep intact are labeled "Google" rather than "phone" contacts in their settings. Once a factory reset is done, or even if you get a new Android phone or tab, those Google contacts will appear in your Contacts app/Phone app/Dialer, etc as soon as you sync.

Factory Data Reset is in the menu > privacy sub-menu. Just click that.

Go into you Google account and make sure 'sync contacts' is checked. You'll have them no matter what.

I don't like the Google sync and or Backup Assistant. Here is a better way. In my opinion.
Go into your main contacts page.
Hit the menu button.
Click Import/Export
Click Export Contacts to SD Card
Click Yes, you are sure(note the .vcf # it'll prolly be 01.vcf)
Factory reset your phone.
Once back up and running do the same thing only this time Import from SD. Choose to store new contacts in either Google or Backup Assistant. It will then search for the vCard file.
Select Import one vCard file
Then select the number you just saved.
All your contacts should now be back.

The point of backing up your phone numbers onto your SD card makes sense only if you are SURE you will never lose your phone (and your SD card).

I agree that backing up your contacts on line make more sense than just backing them up onto your SD card.

It has never worked the way you are describing. I don't understand why. When I change phones I do the whole Google sync thing and I never get my contact or my apps onto my phone. But then sometimes I will get my contacts but there will be three of each. I am sure it is something I am or am not doing.
