Help Ok Does flashing these udates VOID warranty ?

I have seen mixed reviews on this and am a little confused. Previously I had a Desire and had to root to flash firmware now with my GS2 I don't have to root but would flashing the new update void my warranty in anyway ? My Desire did not last long and of course I was not covered under warranty because my screen went on it and I could not flash it back to stock. But good news out of that is I got my GS2 :)

Another question is it true that once to down load by Ordin then you will not be able to use Kies ?

if u flash back ur original firmware, and reset ur flash counter, ur warranty should still be valid.

and if u flash stock firmware, u should still be able to use Kies, if u want to..

right, like samsung techs can't tell if u screwed up and flash back to stock software

Nope, warranty is invalidated as soon as the owner does something proscribed by the warranty conditions e.g. installing an unauthorised firmware update. The handset appearing to be stock doesn't change that; under the T&C of the warranty it's now null and void.

But when u reset your flash counter, nobody will notice u did anything to your phone unless you broke something.

Its a case of technically its void but Samsung will never know. The fact that they changed the bootloader of new firmware so you can't use the jig suggests that they can't tell the difference.

Initially, most warranty issues would be handled by your network carrier, so I suppose its down to how deeply they will look into your phone before deciding whether or not to undergo work/replacement under warranty.

If your handset needs to go back for any reason then all you can do is (if possible) flash the carrier specific firmware that originally came with the handset, and if required, jig the counter back to zero. I would be amazed if there was only one single file/counter on the entire device that indicates non-official flashing, so if it needs to go back to samsung themselves, then there would probably be a discrepancy found.

All we can do is for people on here to relay their warranty stories to give us some idea.

Presumably something is broken if you need to return it for repair. ;)

Or perhaps they are fed-up with people making false warranty claims?

It's up to individuals what they do with their handsets, but to claim that simply reinstalling the stock firmware and resetting a counter magically preserves the warranty is to do them a disservice.

hmm yes, i see.. but if something goes wrong, thats not related to the firmware update, it'd be kinda a shame that the warranty is void, which is the only reason i thought that the usb jig resetting ur flash counter would be useful. if that doesnt work, well.. thanks for enlightening me, i'll save my money :D i guess its a matter of luck too.. surely some people have had success returning their phones, after resetting the counter, or else this method wouldnt be even talked about? oh well, i hope i never have to find out the hard way :P

You buy a USB jig from ebay, wait until the postman delivers it to you, take it out of the packaging, when the power is off you stick it in the USB port of the handset. Counter reset back to zero and download mode entered. just reboot. job done.
:)

if you have a rooted device with the yellow triangle, this will also get rid of this too.

Your counter is only advanced if you install an insecure (rooted) kernel, so yes.
All this will do to a non-rooted handset is put it into download mode (same as pressing VOL-DOWN+HOME+POWER)

1. Most of time you go your carrier so yo will be fine.

2. If you use the Jig it resets the counter, so if Samsung does a test on the counter all they will find is a Big Fat 0 simples

i bet the FBI will never know wut u had on ur computer after u did a system wipe

I sent my Prevail in to Samsung that had been rooted previously, though I was able to use Odin to unroot. They were not able to tell it had been rooted before. I'm not sure though how in-depth their testing and checking goes.
