Help Continuous GPS symbol with 2.3.4

I've just recently gone to 2.3.4 (XWKI4) on an unbranded S2.

I have found that since doing so the GPS symbol is continuously searching for a signal even from the home screen. Previously this only happened when I'd gone to an app which specifically used it such as maps, nav or making a post on Google+. I'm not logged into Latitude either.

I've resorted to just switching it off when not specifically needing it but it seems strange to me that this would have now changed.

Has anyone else found this happening? If not then it could well be a rogue app that I need to dispose of but if this is common then I'll just have to keep to only switching it on when I really need it.

definitely sounds like an app, anything new that u installed along with the 2.3.4 update? u shouldnt have to turn ur gps off like u are doing.. any app u could think of? i assure u its not 2.3.4, i havent heard of this problem, nor have i had it on my phone

Hmmm I certainly haven't installed anything new, I'm quite strict as to what I'll install on there. It sounds like a healthy dose of house keeping is in order.

I'll start stripping off apps one at a time and see what happens.

well first see wats running in ur task manager.. if anything is running, exit them and see if the gps is still active.. if not, check ur running services (settings/applications/running services), for any app that u might think is using ur gps.. and try force closing those..

Ah the controlled approach, what a good idea :)

Go into latitude, then menu>settings
make sure "do not update your location" is set and uncheck all history/check-in options

Check your settings anyway. it wont hurt.
Have you enabled location history in your google account perhaps?
