S2 vs iPhone 4S

After reading the reviews and looking at YouTubes of the newly
announced 4S, all i have to say is ......yawn !

Took only apple a 1/2 yr to nearly catch up hardware wise. Apple
swiped Androids pull down notification ...now who's copying who ? :P
Siri looks to be cooler than voice talk though. Curious how the
cameras/video compare in real life. S2 remains to have less restrictions,
flash, microSD support.... glad i dumped my iPhoney last July for the S2!
Expect to see more iPhone users to jump ship :)

From what I hear, the Iphone's camera has always had a good/larger sensor, and thus was often better than phone camera's of the same megapixel count. Will be interesting to see how it fares up against the S2's camera.
This is the only area where the 4S may possible have the upper hand on the S2. (oh and some people go for that retina display, but it's an apples/oranges scenario)

Well, from specs it's a upgaded Iphone4 with better processor and camera and a few tweak. Compare to SGS2 which is a brand new item with Fm radio, dual processor, larger screen, 8mp cam and you name it. I say, next year Iphone5 might be better but this year eheh, im glad with this phone.

a bit of a disappointment, i was expecting much more :D i think the SGS2 is superior in most ways.. the 4S is pretty much a dual core iphone 4 with a better camera.. Siri is pretty much google voice actions, right?

Well the underlying truth is that once they sell enough 4S units, they'll announce the 5...
It's very rude but that's how business works. If someone wants a 5 they should be self controlling and avoid the 4s at all cost. The 5 is not far off. On the shelf around mid next year for sure. It WILL have the lightpeak (thunderbolt) port (this is a trumping feature that [probably] no other phone will have the licence to have) , so if you want to follow iphone 5 progress keep an eye on that too.

Same impression here. They just managed to keep up with gs2. Nothing new or mind blowing. Still no external memory, nor replaceable battery. And cloud, good luck given most of the counties still have bad wifi coverage. And of ourse more venues to get money by selling up storage. But regardless, you still can't keep on your drive data you paid for. it's just copy of it in multiple locations.
I have been using Synology, which does just that, along with 8tb of storage.

Has anyone seen this?

i don't know what you fellow android people think, but me, i just got my s2 for 1 week-ish. i was concern if i would regret my choice because of this new iphone 4s release. however after spending some time reading the specs and multiple review posted today of the iphone4s vs galaxy s2.

comments wasnt bias, and surprised many favour the galaxy, even said by many iphone4 users. after reading some review, i glad i picked the galaxy s2.

Iphone buahahha epic fail imho. I was expecting sth what will beat sgs2 but what we can see is another apple fail. Good job! Waiting for sgs3 now :)

Very Poor effort by Apple, rather than becoming the current market leader they just want to be on Par. And with the new Nexus coming out soon as well as Ice Cream Sandwich and next year Galaxy S3 about April, by the time the Iphone5 comes out Apple could very much so be lagging behind the rest. Unless the Iphone5 is built from ground up new design, parts etc and no sill things like antenna on outside of the phone.

new iphone 4s is just big lol! i was prepared to get pissed for a while cause ive read many speculations about spec but they didnt impress me, in fact its epic fail imho. they wont get many new users with this phone as it barely can keep up with sgs2. im really glad i get rid of my iphone 4 just after 2 weeks and changed it for sgs2! that was my first and last product from apple and i will never go back to them again. waiting for sgs3 now :D

If the SGS3 is as good as people speculate, and as early as some people speculate - Samsung might just pull out a clear lead at the next update cycle. On the other hand, I think it's realistic that most iPhone users out there will just go for "the next iPhone" at the end of their current contract, no matter what the relative merits.

Android users are used to checking out hardware specs and choosing what they want from their handset, iPhone users just have to form a queue.

Epic response and so true. My partner loves my SGS2 but she just wants a shiny new iphoney only because it's the latest model regardless of specs. Then again she's upgrading from a iphone 3......

Here's a 4-way comparison between the iPhone 4S, SGS2, Moto's Droid Bionic, and HTC's Titan. As those of us in this forum should know, the SGS2 comes out on top, spec-wise.

Here are the two , side-by-side, for comparison of the spec's:-

Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II vs. Apple iPhone 4S - GSMArena.com

Although the RAM of the iPhone 4S is not mentioned in the above, I am given to understand that it has been doubled to 1GHz. see here:-

Apple iPhone 4S unveiled, no iPhone 5 this year - October - 2011 - Which? News

and here:-

Apple will launch the iPhone 4S today; 8-megapixel camera, improved optics and new GPS features

Whilst Apple are moving in the right direction with the iPhone 4S (why did they not call it the iPhone 5?... unless this is a stepping stone), I cannot but help think that this new incarnation of the iPhone only but corrects the flaws of the previous version and with just enough hardware changes to make it viable.

There will, of course, always be the Apple hardcore fan base who will get this, regardless of spec's. However, for those looking to renew their contracts now and who are not dedicated Apple fans, there are a lot of handsets on the market right now that offer a lot more.

yeah, i guess the 4S is to the 4 wat the 3Gs was to the 3.. if u get wat i mean :D not a completely new design, just an updated one. unfortunately for apple, they needed something a bit more this time around to keep it ahead, instead of just trying (and faililng?) to keep up.. although yes, i know quite a few personal friends who are already waiting anxiously for this thing to hit the local stores.

I wonder if Samsung is going to try and block it as it does copy a few things Android has and does well like the notification bar and some other features.

Apple have shot themselves in both feet with this release

A good read

Samsung have an event on the 11th of October and they are rumored to introduce ice cream sandwich os and maybe some new phones.
Will the new os be able to go on the S2, or would you need to upgrade the phone to use the next android os?

The iPhone's trump card is its' app store; loads more apps, loads more game developers developing decent games for the iPhone platform, apps that the iPhone does have tend to be superior to their android counterparts.

If Google sorts out the fragmentation issues with ice cream sandwich as planned, I think that should entice lots of developers into porting their apps to Android.

But yeah, iPhone 4S is a pretty poor upgrade.

I had an iphone 3g until it was stolen last month, and I was waiting to hear about the iphone 5(4s) before moving ahead with a replacement, but now I have to wait until the 11th of October to see what Samsung/Google will offer and whether it's worth waiting any longer.

I remember getting a bunch of free apps for my iphone over the years, and also a few paid apps, but in the end, what I did mostly with my phone was play chess and use maps, so the availability of 200,000 apps was wasted on someone like me. As long as I can get a couple of nice chess apps, I would probably be happy.

I'm similar. I do have about 50 apps on my phone but I mostly use apps like Spotify for playing my music, Facebook/Twitter, Gmail, the usual communication apps basically and a couple of games. Maps etc.

There's not many things that I search for on Android that I can't find, but I am aware of some apps that are more feature packed on the iPhone than on Android (i.e. Facebook).
