Stock Upgrade yet?

Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for a few months, but I've been wondering if there is any talk of a stock upgrade for the Opt V yet? I don't want to root so I am waiting for an official Virgin/LG upgrade to roll out.

Thanks guys...

I remember LG and/or Sprint announcing a stock Android upgrade a few months back but we'll probably have a better chance of paying the national debt off than seeing an upgrade to 2.3! LOL

2.2 is Froyo and 2.3 is the latest and greatest version of Android... Gingerbread!! I'd place money that the 2.3 update will NOT come from VM. Why wait, install a Gingerbread ROM today!! (just read all the tutorials before you do)

...isn't Honeycomb 3.0 the latest? lol...

I'm running 2.3.5 using the BACKSide ROM. Head on over to the 'All Things Root' thread, read and upgrade to something better than VM would ever put out if by some slim chance they decided to send out an upgrade. ;)

Even if they do come out with a Gingerbread update, CM7 will always be better than the stock ROM any day!! Isn't that why we upgrade anyways?? And some people are still running Froyo ROMs from LeslieAnn and others.... because they're better than stock. But hey, to each their own right?? ;)

According to this site, LG has no plans to upgrade the Optimus V to Gingerbread even though the Slider which comes with GB appears to have identical specs as the V.

They aren't linking to a legitimate source where VM makes that statement... so don't give up just yet! ;)

I read somewhere that in the next version (Gingerbread, I presume) that VM has disabled wifi hotspot. So even though I would not encourage people to use wifi hotspot because it violates TOS, if it is truly disabled in GB, I would think that for some people who use it occasionally in a pinch, that avoiding the OS upgrade would be the plan, instead of pursuing it.

Hotspot was disabled in their newest release of Froyo 2.2.2.

oh.... so this begs question... will VM update the OS on my phone (to 2.2.2) automatically? Or is this something i have to initiate? I'd rather stick with 2.2.1. if I can.

Same here, man. Yeah it doesn't automatically update. I didn't know about it until my parents got another Optimus V with 2.2.2 and it didn't work. XD So I never updated.
