Root Best ROM for beginner?

So I'm new to anything but the stock Gingerbread.

Recently though my phone just feels like crap, since no phone really interests me to waste an upgrade on (Hoping the Prime will be worth it) I'm looking to flash with another ROM to speed this guy up and clear out the bloatware and moto crap.

Seems like the big two I've heard of are Cyanogenmod and Apex
I'd really love to run just Vanilla Gingerbread and add my own skins (Currently using QQLauncher)
I guess in the end though, stable and fully supported will be the things I choose (having everything working, camera, wifi, etc.)

I just want the phone to run silky smooth and not kill my battery quickly.

Other than being rooted (with the latest .605 update)
I have no idea where to go from here, I've read the tutorials so hopefully I've grasped the concept.
Bought Titanium backup for all the apps I care about and currently having all my pictures and videos backed up.

So now I'm asking the community. Which ROM is good for me? :D

Couple questions.

What does "2nd Init" mean?
And the first one on the list "4.5.605 Rooted/Deodexed" would that be vanilla 2.3?

no moto based rom is vanilla, the only pure vanilla rom i believe is OMGB and thats on the froyo based rom, and 2init is what gave us cm7/miui/omgb/omfgb and stuff like that

Okay, so the first one listed is there anything special to it?

Or it's just a stock rooted and deodexed like it says.
No removal of anything or adding of any skins, themes, etc.
